My altitude is dropping. Whats the reason?

Hey Guys, ever since we launched Lounge and the Community shelf, there's been this discussion amongst the entire gang regarding the definition of altitude and the right practices to earn them. We have internally been working on this process for a long time, and knew the answer all along. The only question was how to implement it all. Now that the tech team has been able to figure out the process, things are all streamlined in life. Thanks to the likes of our fabulous users a.k.a kiran, KAB, manasi, Himanshu, kghedriu and others who have kept us on our toes on this issue. So a few changes will take place over the next few days, which will change the altitudes for some of you. Please read on.

What is an altitude?

goIIT Altitude by design and execution is the "heights of intellectual expertise you have reached, as analyzed by your community mates, who have been benefited by your contribution in some way". So as pointed by the gang for a long time, the fun articles though really extremely encouraging, cannot be accounted for as altitude :(

Our sincere Apologies for the inconvenience   

Even though majority articles in community shelf have been brilliant and highly entertaining and motivational, the issue is that we cannot consider most of them as technical/academic. As a result the points added to them cannot be added to the altitude. So many altitudes will change over night or in the span of next few weeks. Do accept sincere apologies from our end for the inconvenience. We will soon be coming up with some rating mechanism for the fun/inspirational aspect as well. The salutes etc for the community shelf non-academic posts and the lounge posts still stay. They will not be added to the over all altitude for now. We will soon be coming up with a new mechanism to introduce these non-academic salutes to a user profile
