(iii) Insertion Reaction

When inserstion of element in the molecule takes place for example

(i) Synthesis of alcohols

(ii) Reaction with epoxides

This reaction is used for stepping up two carbon atoms in alcohol series. For example this is used when methyl alcohol is converted into propylalcohol.
