Surfing a standing wave on the North shore

Today we went to Waimea beach and got to watch something cool. The beach sits at the base of a valley which has a small stream running through it. Due to wave action, sand gets pushed up into a large hill in front of the stream each winter. This creates a natural dam that the stream water collects behind for months which is about 20 feet above the level of the ocean on the other side of the sand berm. Every year some one digs a trench through the sand releasing millions of gallons of fresh water into the ocean. This produces a standing wave which is perfect for body boarding and surfing on. Young's Double Slit Experiment

This shows Thomas Young's double slit experiment using a laser pen and a couple of pencil leads. When light shines through two slits between the leads, the two waves coming out interfere and the result is shown on the wall. Interference also occurs with one slit, because light wavelets from each side of the slit interfere with each other. The difference is that with two slits, there is an amplitude envolope not seen with a single slit. However, this is not seen in this video.
