A solvent of relatively high dipole moment and dielectric constant is called polar solvent , e.g., water, alcohol, DMF, DMSO, HMPT, etc. Carbon tertachloride, benzene, hexane are non-polar solvents. From the structure of these solvents we can say that in non-polar solvents dipole ( electronegativity difference between the two atoms does not exist) is zero or the dipole gets cancelled ( as in CCl4).
