MTP-Medical Termination of Pregnancy. Refers to the deliberate abortion of the foetus for reasons elaborated in Section 3 of the MTP Act, 1971. These could be danger to the health of the mother, consideration of the health of the child once it is born and unwanted pregnancies due to rape n the like, to name a few. It is misused, as stated in the NCERT Biology text, in the guise of female foeticide.
