some imp. pts about d and f block elements

1)all transition elements are d block elements but all d block are nt transition elements

2)lightest transition metal is Sc (denstity 3.1 g / cm^3)

heaviest transition metal is osmium

3)the reactivity of transition metals decreases with increase in atomic number

4)All elements of 3d series are good reducing agaents except copper

5)Cu+ with d10 electronic configuration shld be stable bt d9 is more stable due to increased hyb.

6)Mo is used in X ray tubes , Ta in analytic weights instruments

7)Platinum is noble metal but dissolves in aqua regia

8)TiCI4 and TiO2 are used as smoke screens

9)Mn has max. oxdn state among them (+7)

10)FeCI3 is used as stypic to stp bleeding frm a cut

11)Iron carbide or cementite is Fe3C

12)FeO forms slag but not Fe2O3

13)Boradeux is mixture of CuSO4 and lime and is used as fungicide

14)matte is Cu2S + FeS

15)CuFeS2 is known as fool's gold

16)All silver halides except AgF dissolves in water

17)purple of cassuis is colloidal sol. of gold

18)Corrosive sublimate is HgCI2 it is poisnous and its best antidote is white of an egg

19)impure zinc is called spelter , ZnS is used in making x ray screens

20)a strip of copper dissolves in FeCI3 but u all know Cu cannot displace Fe

this is bcoz

Cu + 2 FeCI3 ------->CuCI2 + 2FeCI2
