Well thats a personal decision , probably influenced by his family.But there are equally a lot of other people who haven't joined the IITs because they wanted their stream.

Its nothing lyk dat......IIT tag is important dude.....bcoz demand for IITians is everywhere.......u see anywhere, even IIMs hv 50% IITians........all IITians (apart from those who are screwed up in the sysstem) get awesome packages........and much more is the truth apart from this.....

Well plenty of BITSians too.Last yr there were 24 of them.
I fully agree that IIT Tag is very imp.
But have u seen the placements of fields like Pulp and Paper at Roorkee??

yes dude i can give a lot of info about the placements at IIT R.......Schlumberger company took 2 students from IIT R P&P this year and gave them 18 lakhs each......average package for Pulp and Paper in IIT R was 7.8 lakhs this year........so now tell???.......even BArch had 5.4 lakhs average this year......and now the big thing the Geophysical Technology and Geological Technology had awesome placements this year......there average reached 13.5 lakhs averege, most of them were recruited by Schlum and Shell......

ACTUALLY its only ur talent
hav u forget einsteen started as assistant
and when he gave his photoelectric theory he was just
a grade three technical officer !!!!!!
and today he is one of greatest persono of 19 centuary !!!!

IIT is no great place for education dude..
It's IITJEE that's hyped up..
and people thinking that oh SHlT i didnt get in in 2 tries...now IIT is a broken dream
well IIT has masters entrance thru GATE also..
IITjee is just hyped up cos of 3 lakh ppl giving it, and a low scoring exam,
most average state universities in the US offer better education than the IITs.
and then the govt. cries of brain drain and outsourcing.
talking of drains... heheh. so many of them eh?
n notice how the newspapers try to derive indian roots and lineage of anyone faintly indian and made n achievement...
IIT is still something to be proud of anyway because you cracked the toughest exam in the world succesfully! but it ends at that.
n talking of placement.. heheh... go abroad and ull see how 'placements' is spelt.

so u think that IITs brand image has diluted of late.......its not so dude, the infrastructure u'll get here cud be just thought of in other instis......and u r talking of foreign universities???....but why?????>.......the debate going here is only between IITs and NITs, why have u brought MITs and Stanford into........obviously IITs have to go a long way to come upto there level......but comparison is between the other two.......neways u r in favour of brain drain.......awesome man!!!!........dats where we r lacking.......even sometimes i feel the same that the oppurtunities one gets abroad is much more than here.......but we r wrong dude????.......what say????

From what i have seen last yr , their avg was way below with most students going into Bus companies.

Branch vs Brandname - Highly debatable...my views in the following link or for only some of the NIT's..not all..."What you get in top universities"
Now with repsect to indivudal posts i would like to comment one after another in the reverse order....
@Frazer:Completely agreed with the point IIT's vs MIT...but regarding ur placement in pulp bla bla bla...i give a shit to that....coz Schlum and Shell dont care abt your discipline...only ur capabilities....avergae placement of Geophysical technology is sooo high...OMG i will only do that course....come on...any guy doin Paper and Pulp,Geophysical would only be banking on the brand IIT which surely wont last for a long time...only till he completes his higher studies from a good college.Do you seriously think that these guys stay in those companies for a long time...not even 1% would stay...
@spideyunlimited:Loser...why the heck shld i compare placements in India with some XYZ country where you dont have self respect to work for....agreed our research level education standards arent good..but you cant blame only IIT for that...the attitude of students has to change a lot....

I prefer a good education, the best, so that i can actually contribute to INDIA.

@spideyunlimited dats great!!!.....dere r few persons now-a-days who think more than better job and salary......but neways i don't knw how u'll gonaa do this through brain drain.....can foreign univeresities help u in contributing for India.......nd u talked about placements of those instis......dat means u'll settle in foreign nd work in some foreign core company...
