I agree with Gaurav . IIT is definitely a brand tag ( only in terms of competition and demand in India ) but to make use of that brand tag a student has to excel or perform very good in his engineering stream ..otherwise the brand "tag" doesn't remain brand .

Tell you what , how about telling us all what exactly your plans are?
I mean at times you say that you wanna go abroad only , other times you talk about doing something good for India.
I can tell you that BITS does a LOT for the society.You can check some of the BITSian initiatives , like BITsunami , Nirmaan etc on Google News.They aren't there just for name , they have won awards(BITsunami got into the Guinness )
I am sure the IITs do some stuff like that too.

IIT is not everything, it is the only thing .
People that don't clear iitjee or those who know that they wont be able to clear iitjee talk like this that NIT's are at same level of IIT's but the truth is that each one of us know that IIT's rule .It is a fact that each of engineering aspirant must have envied the IITians at some or other point of their life, its other aspect that they never say that they envy the IITians.
