engg physics is apurely research based branch with placements in pure R&D fields.............if u r ready for a career in research well IITD is the best option for u.........else go for BITS Pilani

I agree with crazynishant.
The same thing i wanted to convey in my previous post.
If U R intersted in research, go for IITD. If not, then BITS.
P.S.- IIT brandname is LESS important than ur life.
Bhai, career ka sawaal hai. Apna interest dekho, phir choose karo.

This IIT has been larger than life for us all these years , we talked IIT,slept IIT ,felt IIT, dreamt IIT all the day long , whole of our life was devoted to this IIT . And now when the dream is gonna get fulfilled you say IIT is less important. Only true lovers and admirers of IIT deserve to be in these prestigies institutes.All other people having a second thought about the IIT's need to go to BITS.
Dude , without a hesitation go to IIT-D

@radon222....to an extent I agree with u ................I mean I wud have never got into BITS if I had not studied for IIT ...............but then I never had second thoughts abt leaving IITs for BITS when I didnt get a branch of my choice, not bcoz of any disrespect for IITs but simply becoz I knew I culd never study smthing which I didnt like..............I mean I've personally known quite a few people graduating from IITs but then screwing up their careers simply bcoz they chose IIT just becoz of its name..............does any one of us want or even deserve to end up in a situation like this?

Ya, OK cool.
Keep ur IIT larger than ur life. But remember, IIT takes only 4 yrs of ur life while U have to live abt 40-50 yrs more.
I never said that go for BITS. In all my posts, I have said that ur frnd shud go by his interest.
If he's not interested in research and he chooses IIT just for its name, then his failure in life is ASSURED.
REMEMBER : Academic excellence is NEVER equal to professional excellence.
And : The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.
If he's interested in research and physics, he wud definitely do well, whether its IIT or VIT or manipal or BITS or whatever.
But if he's not, then its a BAD choice. Becoz one thing is sure that in terms of pay cheques CS is his best bet.
Ghoom phir ke baat wahin aa jaati hai that its HIS INTEREST which matters. And if he doesnt have a single mind, then his life's gonna be really tough.

go for BITS CSE ......................
BOTH IITs and BITS were setup to compete with MIT.........
if u are very much interested in engineering physics than go for it otherwise not

IITD IS TOO HARD TO LEAVE...BUT THEN THINK RATIONALLY...U R HAVING CSE IN BITS PILANI WCH IS IF NOT BETTR BUT NO LESS THAN ALL IIT,INFACT ITS BETTER THAN IITG AND IITR...I FEEL..WE TALK,DREAM IIT ETC...THATS BECOS OF THE DIFFICULTY LEVEL OF IITJEE...BITSAT IS NOT THAT HARD...A SENIOR OF MINE TOOK UP IN BITS PILANI CSE 4 YEARS BACK ...LEAVING SOME COURSE AT IIT(HIS RANK WAS IN 2500-3000)...BUT ANOTHER SENIOR DID JUST OPP,HE TUK IIT KHARAGPUR OCEAN ENGINEERING LEAVING BITSPILANI CSE...SO EVEN U SHOULD LISTEN TO UR HEART...WCHEVR U TAKE FINALLY...U WILL DEFINATELY NOT REGRET LATER...BUT HAD I BEEN IN UR PLACE I WOULD HAVE OPTED FOR BITS PILANI CSE...BRAND BITS PILANI IS ALSO HARD TO RESIST JUST LIKE IIT...

so u mean BITS is better than IIT-D...the thing is he dont want to lose the opportunity after getting a tremendous rank..and 1 more thing..
"he has no particular interest" -->>> this means that he is ready to study everything fr the sake of his carrier with full interest .... ..and not that what u all are thinking :)

If ur friend doesnt have a specific interest and is ready to study anything , then let him go for the IIT-D. And no BITS is not greater than IIT-D , but not much lower than it either. But yes, BITS - CSE will have a higher package for obvious reasons (many IT companies etc ) . One of our coaching class teacher , graduated with Engg Physics from Bombay. He said it was tough and a more research oriented branch. If i were in his place, i would have taken the CSE as am more interested in that. But if he wants to go for management after his UG program, then i would suggest he take IIT-D for the tag purpose.
