the formula for infinite GP is valid ONLY when r<1.

@gonik,
If the series go till infinity, there cannot be any answer to its sum.

Please note that the formula is valid only when the infinite series is converging, that is, the common ratio . This formula is actually derived from the formula for finite series which is When , we can apply the limit that so that we get . So in this case, the formula is not applicable. As for the original question, I think the reason given by rudra.panda is correct. You cannot assign a real value to an infinite diverging series

what gonik u r doing,u r playing with infinity,and all algebric operations are not valid for infinity.here 2s also tends to infinity and s also tends to infinity how can you subtract infinity-infinity and make it some else
