well,if NCERT is really crap & NOT so tough, why could'nt the so-called analytical-question solvers crack it??ans-they know how to solve a problem, but not the fundas on which its based.thats what jee has tested this yr.a really good student must have the best of both-analytical skills&solid fundas |

i dont get the thing.. why do they want to emphasise on cbse when everyone knows it all about mugging up. questions shoulb be framed that require no use of thngs that need 2 b memorized.
i guess its their way to curb the growth of coaching institutes.. they have been after them for 3 years now. |

| i dont agree wid iithopeful at all- its not that we arent able to crack the exam its just that our ranks have suffered because admit it d paper encouraged even ppl who had not prepared whole heartedly to crack the jee. the iits will only dilute their quality by this. as for concepts not being clear- thats crap. u dont clear concepts by reading ncert-thats only for mugging up for the boards. my suggestion to the iits- if u want to giv a ncert based paper well then we already hav an aieee for it. why not just scrap the jee. it will save time and money of lakhs of students who prepare like hell for it thinking it as a very prestigious exam. and u think all the guys who got into iit through the earlier mains subjective exam read their ncert books!!! u can read the entire ncert u still wont be able to crack jee mr.iithopeful |

Hey vidur99, if u read what i actually said...i said that u first read ncert books then go to higher stuff...not read only ncert.NCERT ALONE IS OBVIOUSLY NOT ADEQUATE FO THE JEE. Well the reason as i know it for the iits to set such a kind of paper is quite clear. They want students not to concentrare only on their coaching centres but also give attention to school. Their loads of brilliant student out there who do not have access (due to various reasons) to coaching. Where will they go....dont they have an equal right as u or me to get into iit. Ofcourse they do. But they have no chance..why? because the iit paper uptill last year was such that only students who had access to coaching (not in all cases though) could crack it. I think the statistic is that around 95% of students who get into iit....have taken some kind of extra coaching. so we see here that more or less....only students who have access to good coachin have any chance of cracking the jee. The problem with the previous jee papers was that ....even if u were brilliant and had good analytical ability and had a sound scientific temper...u would still not be able to crack iit...without any coachin. With this years jee what the iits have done is that they have created a level playing feild where even students who havent taken any coaching have a good chance. And cmon don tell me that people who mugged ncert would have done well this year....if they had jus mugged they have no chance whatsoever. and also i read an article right here at goiit a few months back...in which the dean of one of the iits gave a speech ..sayin that most of the guys who enter iits today are losers with very less aptitude for science...they jus make due to intensive coaching. Me and most you guys here at goiit can afford coachin ....what about the others. think about. Now im not sayin that u have to read ncert ...all im sayin is that read books from which u can extract fundamentals of the 3 subjects. NCERT was jus an example that i gave. For instance for organic chemistry(which i suck at) i use morrison boyd...coz i can understand concepts from it better. the problem is people directly go into books of problem solving books like irodov and other without clearly knowing the fundas. Most of the coaching centers in the country too advocate this....and this makes a student a problem solving machine. The student may be able to solve the toughest of the toughest of problems....but if u ask him fundamental questions relating to the same tough questions...he wud most probably blink. My main point is IF YOU HAVE THOROUGLY UNDERSTOOD THE FUNDAS AND APPLICATIONS OF THE THREE SUBJECTS ...NO MATTER WHAT EXAM IN THE WORLD YOU WILL CRACK IT... |

| I'm agree with IIThopeful. this year JEE patern was more delicate than ever.this year paper shows that JEE demands smart person instead of working machines .now for IIT2008 aspirants i can just say that put more stress on making ur concepts clear. BUT who knows what the game they play next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| hey iithopeful its not just about concepts- of course u have to clear ur fundas to solve jee and dont tell me coaching inst. dont clear fundas first. its the fact that iit has given an undue weightage to ncert book - never before have there been so many quesns from chapters like biomolecules or surface chemistry(there was even a quesn on semiconductors). the exclusive jee topics like qualitative analysis were hardly there. the inorganic chem was direct out of the textbook and those who had mugged up ncert for boards could easily answer these. lets admit it-u can never get through jee by just doing ur school work yet this paper tries to encourage students to do school studies. i mean u cant have both things- either they should make it totally ncert based(just like an objective cbse exam) or go back to the golden old jee days . whatever u say of coaching even this paper could not have been solved by non coached students(at least majority will still be from coaching inst.) so it doesnt serve its purpose completely yet offers a disadvantage to those studying exclusively for jee. i dont blame the iits this is all the bloody work of arjun singh who is bent upon diluting their quality in the name of reducing stress on students. stress will only increase as ppl will still go 4 coaching but now they will have to work hard for school exams as well . but at least they'll know they hav to - we giving jee in 2007 didnt even know bout it -and so we r the unluckiest year. 2006 was a typical jee standard paper even though it was objective. |

| i agree with vidur99. NCERT based questions does give an undeniable advantage to the people who stick to the NCERT syllabus. |
