dont be alone...and discuss openheartedly ur reasons for failure with ur dearones

Achin, I have a son your age and whilst he never uttered the word you have, he also went throguh a brief period of depression. Actually, it was a brief period of loss of self-esteem. This was when he did not qualify at JEE2007 although he worked quite hard. He thought he was not worth much. He thought he did not deserve my love as he had not succeeded in a certain exam. I know he was silly, but I sat down with him and said the following. Much of it may apply to you too, Achin. Your father may say the same thing to you.

"My love for you is unconditional. It is independent of whatever happens. My support to you - emotionally, financially, physically - is also unconditional. Winning is not about never losing; it is all about never tiring of trying. If you can't handle failure, you won't know how to be successful. And successful you will be. Without doubt. All you have to do is believe in yourself and refuse, absolutely refuse, to consider yourself inferior to anyone or incapable of anything. Tell yourself that whatever you will do, you will be excellent, since mediocrity is a crime. Then, put in your honest and sincere efforts. There is NO way that you will not succeed. Trust me. Even if you choose to be a professional guitarist, and I know you are very good at it (better than I), you have my full support but the condition is - you have to be the best guitarist this side of the Suez Canal as, to repeat, mediocrity is a crime. So go ahead and discover  yourself, and remember I am with you, always, unconditionally."

My son gathered himself and he is studying his chosen course at RV College, Bangalore and doing very well academically as well as in music.

Achin, I always tell youngsters that you are a unique creation of God and you will have a unique place in the world. You don't have to follow anyone's footsteps. You have to chart your own, unique, course. And I am guessing that the name you have given yourself, Achin Bansal, is not yours as JEE2007 #1 went by that name. Are you trying to emulate him? My advice is - don't. Like Sunil Gavaskar, when he was called the Gary Sobers of India after his exploits in the West Indies in 1971, politely quipped, "I am Sunil Gavaskar of India".
