If both the plates of one capacitor are connected to both plates.

I know this is parallel connection .
But does the question mention a parallel connection ??? Just tell me the line in the question which tells u that connection is parallel .

alos umang two capacitors can be connected in (see fig)

here case 1 is just a single capacitor with one plate of capacitor 1 & other of 2

in case 2 two capacitors are conncted in parallel

hence it's clear that two capacitors can only be conncted in parallel (if all plates are used which is indeed in the question)

Look,

See the line which says that common potential of both after connection is V2. Now, when potential is same for both and both are connected, it is clear that both are in parallel.

arey yaar , I hav no problems with this . I hav understood this completely . But u said earlier that even if this common potential is not given , they will be in parallel .
I am just asking why ???

If both are in series then they cannot have the same potential

arey whether common potential is given or not it does not matter
when u connect two capacitors their potential will rearrange so that both arrive at acommon potential because they can only be connected in parallel
