its a question which has come for the first time in the cbse 2008 paper.......it cannot be found in any of the iit/aieee/ncert prep textbooks/book of any kind...........

hey adidas ,the problem that occurs when you integrate it is that you get the integrand as log sec theta limits frm 0 to pi/4 which cannot be easily integrated !!! But if you are getting an ans with this method could you please post it ?

put tan^-1 x = t den d given [ ] [ ] becomes [0 ] [ /4] 2t^2 sec^2 tdt 2[t^2tant]0--  /4 - [0 ] [ /4] 2t tan t dt 2[  ^2/16] -2[t log sect]0-  /4 - [ 0] [ /4] log sect dt on simplification u will get d answer i.e tlogsect will repeat in integral o-pi/4 which will cancel hence u will get d answer

Excuse me, but can you kindly tell me how you did integral 0 to pi/4 log secx dx? or how did you assume that it will cancel out? you see, im very stupid at this thats why i asked :)
