yes, eddy currents will play a role. But while eddy currents are random, the current im talking about has a specific direction. But the question arising is-
when the momentary current due to capacitor -like circuit stops flowing, will accn still be less than g due to eddy currents?

Ok heres a confirmed answer, its an mnr 1987 prob by the way.
G.c.Aggarwal says that if the ring above has a slot(cut somewhere) , an emf will be induced but a current will not be flowing ; NO current NO force and magnet falls with acceleration g

ok then ashwin, answer this-induced emf means electric field. If electrons are not flowing, then which force is balancing the field?

this is getting more and more confusingggg..........

Remember Cedric. Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory.

ev pradeep's gives d ans as g.....
bt i am nt sure whether there needs to be a completed circuit for the flow of current when a p.d exists b/w two points on the ring.......

if there is flow of current then accn shud b less than g......

WHEN THE MAGNET IS DROPPED THROUGH THE RING THEIR IS CHANGE IN MAGNETIC FLUX LINKING THE RING DUE TO WHICH THEIR IS INDUCTION OF CURRENT IN THE RING WHICH OPPOSES THE MOTION OF THE MAGNET THUS ACCELERATION IS LESS THAN g.
BUT WHEN THE SAME RING IS CUT THEIR WILL BE OPEN CIRCUIT DUE TO WHICH EMF DOES INDUCE BUT THEIR IS NO FLOW OF CURRENT THUS THE BAR MAGNET FALLS WITH ACCELERATION EQUAL TOg.
hope satisfied
