its really a simple question;
you just needs to be very careful while solving the question,especially the
 solving of the resulant equations ,which we get by solving the constraint rule;

[Thumb - pulleys.JPG]

the equations formed would be as follows-----

   taking distance EC=x3;
             distance  EB=x2;
             distance  DA =x1;

so now,
x1 + x2+ 2x3 = 0
a1+ a2 +  2a3=0                         ------------1

now ;

m1g - t = m1a1                           -----------2
m2g - t = m2a2                           -----------3
m3g -2t = m3a3                          -----------4

now its just solving the equations , but please be very careful with it , you may get trapped.
i solved for the tension,t= 2g/3  [ the actual ans in variable form is a bit wierd but  some what correct----------(4m1m2m3g) / ( 4m1m2 + m2m3 + m1m3 ).

as far as accleration is concerned its simple once you get till here.
try it . as your knowledge is as good as mine.

remember practice makes a man perfect , so focus , and practice .......

keep smiling...

pls specify the kind of method you request to have,

i thougth you wanted to know the process of solving , keep thinking you can short this solution by using virtual work theorem as specified , already by "magiclko".

when you make equations in laws of mtion and when the no of equations<no of variables then use constrained reltionship.
