see as far as i know HCV is good book ,clear ur concepts and is fine for beginners ................ but it alone cannot take u to JEE so u hav to move on to other books also specially the electro&magnetism is useless frm HCV..... Rest is fine !!!!!!!!!!!

For clearing JEE, ur main motive must be to CLEAR CONCEPTS rather than practive objective ques. If concepts are gud, objective kya koi bhi ques ho jaayega. HCV ques and theory make ur concepts sharp and crystal clear. That's why it is called Bible of physics.

I PERSONALLY DONT LIKE HCV COZ ITS NOT AN ULTIMATE IN MECHANICS THE POINT IS THE AUTHOR IS TOO GOOD BUT NOT ALL TRICKS AND EASIER METHODS ARE WRITTEN AND EXPLAINED . SOMETIMES I FIND AT CERTAIN PLACES REASONS MISSING I CAN ONLY SEEE AN EXAMPLE AND PROCCED BUT OPINIONS DIFFER SO.............

hi ramyani, First of all understand that each person will have a different opinion. Ask 100 people and chances are you'll hear atleast 50 different opinions. All the books people have mentioned above, including irodov, dc pandey and so on..ARE good books. No one said they are bad. But doesnt mean, you have to do all of them. Each book is known for it's specific features. In general, HCV is one of the best books for JEE physics. It is famous for the objective questions. I have hardly come across any book with such good conceptual questions. I suggest you continue with HCV. I personally feel it is the best book. But do note that it does not have the toughest problems. Once you become thorough with the concepts, it might be advisable to refer a tougher book, especially in your 12th while revising. I would suggest Irodov. (Awesome book,If you want to see the beauty of the magnificent subject, phyiscs, you have to do this book!)

Pesonally, I have no qualms against HCVerma's Book. But then again, Resnick-Halliday-Walker has got a personal open touch to it ! It helps.

I studied HCV for last 1 yr. I remember I started to read da buk since 6th april, 2007 and continued till 15th feb, 2008. ( I had to stop as my 1st yr exam started from 14th march---- which will end on 9th apr 2008 ).
sometime in the middle i discovered the trimmed version of D C Pandey series --- thanks to water demon and i found that mechanics electricity optics book contains a lot of problems and technique which ar not in HCV. now i hav exactly one year for JEE 2009.
should I continue with HCV for the rest of course or shift to DC Pandey ? New version.
I must add that we hav to read the state board bukks.
