nope.. i was hoping for something on absorption or emission spectra..
anyway cutepooja seems to be saying something else.. the explanation i gave is more concerned with emission spectra... although it is applicable to this case also.. but lets see pooja seems to be giving a more appropriate soln.

now since hv+mc2 =hv'+ Ee
and the above eq
we put values of Ee and Pe into
Ee2 = (mc2)2 +Pe2c2
puttin # = c/v
[h(v-v') + (mc2)]2 =m2c4 + (hv)2 + (hv')2 -2(hv)(hv')cos@
squaring left hand side and calcelling

rearranging
h/mc2 (1-cos@) = v-v'/vv' = c/# - c/#' \ c2/##' = 1/c(#-#')
or change in# = h/mc(1-cos@)
