Non IIT Institutes
Hello, I'm from VIT and I've noticed quite a few threads with posters who seem bent on maligning my institute - posters who have no idea, who've never been to VIT and those who repeat the same lies which have been passed on from one person to another without anyone bothering to verify these claims.I wouldn't have started this thread, but a friend of mine notified me of the alarming rate at which the number of prospective candidates were dwindling because of these rumours. My message to the students who were dissuaded from joining - Do not make a foolish decision guided by students who aren't in VIT in the first place. What do they know of the ins

@seifo90
I am amazed by your extreme fervour towards VIT which ranges from jingoism to fanaticism.
As for calling me a liar, I don't take it personally as I think I failed to provide you the facts - so here is the encore..
- They boast of a huge infrastructure but is it possible for any infrastructure to support 15,000+ students. The campus is barely 200 acres. And the campus , everytime feels like a fish market. A small dingy classroom with 120+ students imagine!! An year of a department with 300+ students!!!
You did provide the wikipedia entry so care to check the right hand corner for number of students. It says 12,242 students. And also that figure is an yr and half old, thats when I passed out. If question the authenticity of wiki even, plz do go to the certificates department where no the left side of the wall they display the number of current students and in my time this was the same figure as it is provided in wiki. So it is safe to assume that the number of students might now be 15K in 1 1/2 yrs.
- Most of the student crowd is very dodgy, I mean nearly 50-60 % of the students are from management quota and rest are the students who score no so high in VITEEE entrance exam. Frankly, I know people there who say sqrt(-4) = -2! and (a-b)^2 = a^2 - b^2!!
Listen dude/dudette some 2 yrs back the situation was the similar as i mentioned above, I dont have the figures of number of such persons but i hv met many who clearly lack common sense, I guess shld be common in any case. I dont know abt the situation now, It might hv improved
- if students are bad, then faculty is even worse, the lecturer who teaches advanced programming doesnt even know what does strcmp() mean ( a very basic function in C). Plagiarizing student's ideas by the faculty for their own means is rampant there.
As for the faculty, you seem to agree on the plight of CS department. Could you care to throw light on the matter, that how many Assistant Professors have a PHd which is recommended by AICTE. Also the ECE and EE dept share the same problem. But I agree with Mech, Biotech, Civil, I would recommend them as better ones. Please care to note that I said that "faculty dont know stuff" rather than "they are not helpful" . But the problem is that unless you know something its impossible to help.
- Academics sucks.. there is no concept of research. You will hv to go for a lot of trouble if applying for higher studies. Still follow some syllabus copied from VTU Karnataka, BITS.
How many publications by students, faculty / yr. Please, I was discouraged to publish mine even as the Prof-in charge said it was not good (so much for encouragement). Copying syllabus is not a good indicator of a Insti, hell they dont copy rather they take the what they feel best from other Insti syllabus. We didnt have Theory of Computation, Analysis of Algos which is one of the most important course of CS, i think you might agree if you are in CS.( many students didnt qualify in GATE because of the lack of knowledge of above two courses).
- About the strict rules..
They did 'almost' singlehandedly destroyed my career. Why, I was in top 10 students in first yr / 1100 students. I was in top 10% in my department for all yrs, still they didnt give me promised scholarship, denied me first class with disti, didnt gave me a dept rank, denied me a chance to be a part of National-level Programming contest. why because i didnt give a 'HISTORY exam' as I was ill and part of thier stupid rules says unless you are gravely ill/death of father or mother they wont reconsider. A severe 'food poisoning' doesnt qualify as gravely ill, so I was failed.
Now you think that I didnt have correct priorities, then you can reconsider.
Although I am happy by your attitude to support VIT, its good to know that Junis are optimistic, but I dont know how the stuation improved in a yr or so.
TO ASPIRANTS,
VIT is good but not good than NSIT/DCE, CEG, some NITS(surathkal,W,Rourkela,Trichy, Calicut,Allhabad, Jaipur ), IIIT-A/IIIT-H, RVCE.
Also for the Ban-AUS test match see this(they havent won a test match against Aus)

I think you have seen the one day match in cardiff, Aftab Ahmed biffing Six of Gillespie.
Peace
all right.......i have not taken any thing personally......but yes...that wise guy.......oh i dont want any abuses right now....so leave it........but i stick to my points till my last breath......vit is a good place......not the best but ys good....you may not agree its allright but .....trust me if u join the college u will know........i assure you u will speak differently.......
and yes iam your friend and that is why making an effort out here........
@paul trully debated buddy....so i hav no hard feelings...and regarding ur rank in viteee .....if it is true.....then it is unfortunate..........as for my advice dont go for rti......aicte and press is a better option
@inquiz......look u have ur own idea.....maybe you had some very bad experiences......but that definitely didnot happen with me......I am proud that i have chosen vit over nit durgapur.....and believe it has been one of the most successful decisions of my life......i feel sorry for u that vit could not live upto your expectations.......and i hope it does not happen with any other guy.........and trust me there are not so many students in the vit campus........it is hardly 5000....and yes....vit really has changed alot in the last two yrs.....and i have to ask that r u a passout....because if u are then i have to take back my statements....i must say u did not ;lie after all...because 2 yrs back u have passed out then u would have joined in 2002...and at that time vit had many loop holes......but yr after yr it has improved...........
and yes whatever inquizitor has said....in the last few lines of his post........i agree with each and every line.....
trust me you dont want to go to dce...........nsit is very very very good .....but dce is horrible..........trust me it was good 6 yrs back......but now it has become really horrible...earlier all the good minds used to enter dce...but now they r all choosing nsit.....the syllabuus has not been revise for 16 yrs......the faculty is horrible .....and no use ful classes are actually held......
and as for nits.....i have been repeating the same line that inquztor produced again and agin ....vit is not at par with top 3 nits but better or at par with rest of them....,..
are bhaisaab goiit free hai u can create as many accounts as u want :))
then y waz there any need of lying.....
when u r defending a reputation of a college u shudnt hav started on a wrong foot...
well neways nice try :>
but the feelin against VIT is quite strong nd it wont go away easily...
Well I joined VIT in 2003, was a part of AIEEE batch.
Frankly, I was hell bent on getting a degree in CSE, so had to let go of a lot of good colleges(read DCE,NSIT, NIT-R) where I was not getting branch of CSE and the gamble which I took blew up on my face.
Also the bad experience was not only for me rather with most of my friends even. The point is that we lost the motivation and will to study. At last year we were only concerned with the placements. And for our batch even placements were pathetic.
Again to aspirants, well a year back, the situation was bad, I wouldnt say worst. The dept CS/EEE/ECE was sucking big time. Teaching was very substandard(apart from a teacher or two), Lecturers were VIT pass-outs. Asst Profs/Associate Profs were with Mtechs only and that too from VIT. I cant imagine how it improved in an year or so.
So the true picture is that VIT cant be at 10th rank. An honest rank would be 20-25 to say least (after IITS, BHU,BITS(P,Mesra), NITS(A,C,W,Surathkal,T,Jaipur, Rour, Nagpur), CEG, RVCE, IIITS(A,H), DCE, NSIT, UICT(chem)).
So only consider it after exhausting the previous options. I dont know about other pvt instis like TIET, DAIIT, MIT-Mnipal, VJTI, JNTU and other NITs you shld ask their students.
--Inquizdator @ NY---
look brother......nothing against manipal.......i myself wanted to join....but could not afford it..........and about management quota....the explanation that u gave...is the same for vit....vit also takes students under nri quota not management....but of course it just fir the sake of its name.......and you say which NAJAYAZ AULAD TOLD ME THAT.......a friend of mine...who studies in manipal........in his batch only there are quota students my dear......but oops i have talked against MANIPAL....WHAT A BIG DISASTER I HAVE DONE
