Manipal VIT RVCE are all decent colleges and make it to the top 50 engineering colleges in India. Half the NITs are worse than these colleges even if you are talking of the same course. eg: Srinagar Patna Agartala Raipur Silchar Hamirpur Jalandhar Jamshedpur Durgapur

NITs Raurkela KKR Nagpur etc definitely are overall a little better particularly because of the NIT label but it isn't that they are a different league. They all fall in a similar league except top NITs Bhopal and onwards.

Any college upto top 50 is decent and doing CS IT or ECE there is not a bad choice. In fact it would be better to go for CS here than Civil in top 30 or so.

well i myself am a student in manipal. Even i had heard a lot of rumours about the kind of crowd that goes to MIT.But contrary to what i had heard,MIT doesnt have that much ragging at all, at most u may be asked an intro in hindi,but thats it.Yes,architecture people do have some ragging but that too includes doing work for seniors in which process you actually learn something.Moreover the seniors are the best they are very helpful and go out of teir way to make the first years feel comfortable.

secondly about the fees,well this is a wrong conception as many people do get a lot of scholarships and freeships.

Firstly the top 5% students of each branch get a freeship that is they are paying about 11,000 odd.Secondly there is a girls quota for evry few % of the girls from each stream(i think arnd 10%)..their tution fees are paid by the aicte itself.so their fees are arnd 60,000.thirdly there are scholarships for people whose parents annual income is below 2.5 lpa.

moreover the hostel fees too vary with the kindof of hostel u take but overall all the hostels are really really gud and arent very expensive when compared to other colleges..moreover u hav free wi fi or lan provided in the colleges.

but the food,well its OK -OK,u hav many messes to chose from,but aftr a while u do get bored of the mess food,which is sometimes unhygenic,so u can join the outside messes too which are cheap and clean. The canteen is good but kindof expensive to eat der on a dialy basis but worth it for the ice creams and juices and milkshakes between classes!! :)

i feel manipal university even though it is a private university goes out of its way to help the students to pursue their education there.

also the case of drugs and drinking well,it happens in all colleges,and there are rotten eggs evrywhere.But its not like all the people there are drug addicts or drunkards there maybe a few...i really dunno coz the people i noe are far from that kinda stuff and i speak of people who form a majority.

I dunno nething about the placements but i do noe dat the teachers well a few are really good a few are really boring and though they have the knowledge they cannot teach.Many of them will go out of their way to solve watevere doubts u hav and are easily accesible .

the only disadvantage i can think of rite now is dat manipal doesnt hav a decnt theatre ..so v travell all the way to mangalore to watch a movie...

i think dat if u r a student who wants to study and also hav fun while doing it ......manipal is the place for u.!! :)..and if ur good enough u will surely be recognised here!!! :)..hope to see u in manipal.

JIIT is a new upcoming college and is currently in the same league as Manipal VIT LNMIIT etc. However in the next few years you can expect JIIT and LNMIIT to overtake these rivals and be far ahead in different leagues althogether. These colleges are new and deserve time to get established.

SRM infra is good??

Are you kidding me? I went there for counselling and personally checked out their hostel.it was bad man,the toilet didnt even have Western Style toilets...it was our typical indian latrine.May seem normal for some..but since i am from Delhi it was very disturbing to see the hostel and rooms.Only the buildings were goodlooking from faraway.Dont go by those pictures on their website..i was totally pissed off.
