i am at loss to understand wat u say @eistien....but i know tht fric force is cal based on normallll... so we llll have to get the net normal actin and tht ll be mg-L as drag force is lifting the plane.....

c this is basically the mistake u r making:
when a car moves fwd the wheel rotates backward...now for the wheel if u c @ the bottom the friction acts fwd so tht v=rw @ bottom..i mean the friction tries to bring it to tht...so the velocity of wheel decreases...
so the vel of axle of wheel which propels car fwd dec...so car moves fwd slowly...so EFFECTIVELY the force of friction acts backward...wat i mean is if u now want to consider the sum lik a block moving to bring it to the same thought process u have to take friction backwards

but i am sorry i have a doubt but friction is (mu)mg only when it is sliding no not when the wheels are pure rolling no??? in our normal sums we neglect this fact computer and take the system as a point sized object and state the newtons laws when it comes to rotational mechanics it id different no???

srini read above
the crux is basically where friction is acting...on tyre its fwd but effectively on the car it is backword...hope u understand my pt

and why should air drag act in the upward direction when the car is moving in the horizontal direction ur air drag force is given by F=-kv^2 and thus must act in the horizontal only no???

by laws in fluids....the air foce acts to lift the body...so actually when a plane moves with gr8 vel the pressure just above its wing span dec and the plane gets lifted up due to the press diff...so here we take th air drag acting upwards as the plane is going up......thus airdrag acts upwards....hope u got it....rate if usefull...

there are 2 things..1 is lift 1 is air drag..they are different..
the air coming directly at the car cause hor force but air near the bottom of the car not @ bottom but say roughly near the headlights get deflected downward due to the curved naure of front bottom and deflect of the ground back onto the car and create upwards force

tht is true near the windshield n all but not near the headlights due to the deflection i mentioned

did u understand my pt of effective dir of friction???
