TEMPERAMENT

Temperament plays a vital role for success at IIT-JEE.Nervousness can decrease performance to such an effect that a student getting expected to get a top rank in JEE ,fails to even qualify.I know the importance of temperament, because I have sufferred because of it .My coaching institute (FIITJEE)had predicted a rank of around 100 based on my perfomance in various all-India level tests, but due to immense pressure on me during the JEE ,I failed to deliver and got a low rank. During the JEE ,time and again this thought comes up ,that this exam will decide my all future ,thus causing nervousness. The best way to handle this is to remain cool and concentrated all the time .You can practice this during the Board exam as it is also a pressure exam(but with no future importance). Some tips to handle such problems are

  • During the exam ,if you feel nervous ,think that it is perfectly normal and all other students are also facing the same problem

  • Generally ,after one hour ,concentration goes low. When this happens stop writing the exam and gather your thoughts by saying prayers for 2-3 minutes and drinking water. This helps in the long run.

  • During the exam don't look around ,what others are doing. This affects the concentration.

  • After one exam is over, don't discuss the papers. If you find out that you have fared badly in the exam, your next paper is also affected

  • One week before the exam, mend your sleep habits.Atleast 9 hours sleep is necessary for concentration to be at the peak.Avoid sleeping during the afternoon.

In my view ,these are things to be strictly observed during and before JEE.Note that most of the students who get a rank<500 in JEE have this very important quality of temperament control and staying cool.Infact JEE is 50% academic test and 50% temperament test.So give heed to this important issue and you will safely land into IIT.My next topic is concerned with course planning, which makes the difference between a high rank and low rank.
