But one thing abt h c verma is that it slowly takes u into the labrynth of physics . Dc pandey is straight forward and does not give that much pleasure in reading.

it is not important where u stand, but in which direction u are moving

nupz...DCP is far better than HCV.

HCV has its name coz itz smwt 30 years old or so, and that time no books used to come, as now available in the market...so bas naam hai...

i would not like to get into a debate...
but would end up saying that different people different choices.

and ramyani, i don't think ya solely relied on HCV...
i think coachin played a major role to..

itz next to impossible to get thru wid HCV without coachin...

I agree that coachin played a major role to crck JEE. But where I stay there r no coaching insttt. Inspite of that 2/3 students cleared jee in last 5 yrs.

I can't ask god to send an insttt.  here. I must do with whatever resources r here.

hello aspirants..
well something i would like to tell u from my experience

whatever book u follow(be it hcv, resnick, abc, pradeep or whatever)
i would advice u to complete it thoroughly first n then jump to other books. many people make mistake(even i did) of going to 4 or 5 books n they end up completing not even 1. abhi to u might be thinking that u have a lot of time so might so might want to be reading a lot a books. what happens is if u start kinematics for example u do it from 4 or 5 books, this trend continues n you get a good hold on first few chapters n miss out completely last ones..
n pattern of xamination does matter in what kind books u go through... also before studying physics i would recommend u to have a through knowledge of calculus if have not studied it yet....after which physics is very easy, n it is the only prerequisites of hcv if u have read.
also do the same in maths and chem.
i wish u all d best!!!!

DUDES SEE THAT HCV IS A GR8 BOOK TO BUILD UR CONCEPTS
U DONT EVEN NEED TO LEARN THEORY TO UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPTS
THE PROBLEMS ARE SUPERB FOR A BEGINNER AND I AM SURE U WILL COMPETE IT ON THE BASIS OF IT
BUT IF U WANA GET A RANK LIKE I AM ASPIRING OF RANK 1 THEN IT ISNT ENOUGH
I KNOW THAT THE PHYSICS THSI TIME WAS EASY ESPECIALLY MECHANICS SECTION BUT WHO KNOWS WHAT WIL HAPPEN NEXT TIME MAYBE MATHS IS EASY AND PHYSICS IS 2 HARD
U DONT KNOW
SO IN THE SCENARIO U REQUIRE OTHER BOOKS
I WOULD PERSONALLY RECOMMEND DC PANDEY, I.E. IRODV
AND A NEW BOOK PROBLEMS IN MECHANICS BY ABHAY KUMAR SINGH
MAN THESE BOOKS R DESIGNED TO POLISH UR CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDINGS NOT MAKE THEM
HCV IS GR8 FOR GIVING A NO OF PROB AND CONCEPTS BUT TO BE REST ASSURED FOR A BERTH IN IIT U REQUIRE BOOKS THAT WILL GRIND AND CRUNCH UR BRAIN
BUT TO THESE MANY BOOKS U REQIRE A LOT OF TIME BRAINS AND OF COURSE GOIITIANS
IN A PARTING NOTE I WISH TO SAY THAT I WAS ONCE THE GREATEST HCV FANS BUT NOT NOW I AM HIS FAN BUT NOT THAT MUCH U CAN SEE IN MY EARLIER POST ITSELF
REST IS UPON U ALL MY FRIENDS
!!!!!!!!!!!!CHEERS!!!!!!!

From shadows a light shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that's broken
The crown less again shall be king.

Solving problems requires a good hold of the concepts.

If you want to build concepts in Physics, H C Verma's "Concepts of Physics" is the best book.
