@angelboy ... as soon as he lifts his leg...normal reaction is zero???he lifts only ONE leg at a time...the other leg is still on the ground...so normal force WILL NOT BE ZERO at any instant...ur answer is right but ur reasoning is flawed check my post in page 2...u will see the reason...

The answer is zero because although the displacement and the normal rxn from the ladder are in the same direction no displacement of the hands occur when the force is in contact with the boy. To do work the force has to be continuously in contact with the body, in this case it is not and hence the work is zero.

end this topic here only yaar, rohit has given the best answer(and perfect as well) for this question.the ladder has done no work.the work has been done only by the muscles of the boy which are internal forces. agar ladder ne work kiya hota toh baar baar upar niche chadne par ladke ko nahi ladder ko paseena (sweat) aata. hehehehe

there are numerous options besides I.I.T

I think it should be zero cos the normal force exerted is perpendicular to ladder and displacement is along the ladder,

Ratings do not necessarily signify that someone is good, or bad. I'm here to learn and help others learn, and a person unlocking the mysteries with the help of my solution, to a nagging problem, means more pleasure to me than ratings can ever make me feel. |

i feel tht the only explanation tht could be given is tht the boy climbs the ladder by his own abilities.....it is like walking on a plain ground....work done by ground is zero......so is work done by ladder is zero.......i like rohits expln......
