without mentioning the solvent it is impossible to
predict the basicity of any compound.............it all
depends on the solvent ...........
if suppose the qn. mentions nothing about the solvent
,go by the electron density concept ..... more is
the electron density more basic the compound is
......coming to ur qn. i think the answer given is
incorrect in the light of my knowledge ..........
the correct order according to me is
3>2>1>4..............but predicting basicity without
knowing the solvent used is meaningless...........

Yes Harsha U R right. That's what I wrote to that Dutta when she said that primary amines are most basic which is not possible in any solvent.

Hiiiio dude sorry yaar fr not posting the answer before look acc to me the answer given to u is wrong tarinbansal was very correct in his 2nd (or 3rd) reply the answer mst be 1 > 3 > 2 > 4 1 reason is (CH3)2NH is a 2 deg amine CH3CH2NH2 is a 1 deg amine and CH3-CONH2 is an amide... so u can calculate the basicity frm here only....(1st one will be most basic naturally) the reason for 1st one to b basic is here....
we have an acid .........NH2 ..........|| CH3 - C - NH2 , if we add H+ to it , a conjugate acid (a) is obtained.....and it is stabilized by 2 resonance structures (see fig)
so its most basic....
now the reactivity order is
1 > 3 > 2 > 4
HOPE U UNDERSTOOD.... :) :)

Himanshu bhaiyya, sorry to say but ur figure and hence explanation for first compound is wrong. Look at the question again. In the figure, U hav taken the starting compound wrong. Think urself how can N form 4 bonds without a +ve charge on itself? Actuallu the compound (b) in ur figure is the original compound given in the question. And it can't accept any more H+ and hence will be most acidic and least basic.

the answer should be 1324 becoz in1 part of guinidine (strongest base) is attached in 3 two ch3 groupsattached to same nitrogen increase the electron density at nh2 in 2 only1 ch3 is attached to nit. and 4 obviously due to electrons involved in resonance
