Non IIT Institutes

1. 50% seats will be filled in through State Rank Basis of the home state( Nit Nagpur will have 50% maharastra students)
2. The earlier scheme was to admit the remaining 50% on the basis of state ranks. Each state had a particular number of seats..for ex:-( AP had 2 in NIt Trichy CSE, Delhi had 1 SC/St seat in Nit Suritkal Mech)
3. The new scheme indicates that the remaining 50% will no longer be alloted state wise, but will be decided on an all India basis. That means that AP can have upto 10-15 seats in NIT Trichy CSE..
It's consequences:-
1.Even a AIR of 5000 wasnt enough to grant a NIT seats for ppl in AP, Rajasthan and Delhi..But now you can get a seat in any NIT with your all India rank.
2. The state rank comes into use only for local NIT's. For ex:- Your AP state rank which needs to be in 1-10 for NIT trichy qualification will no longer count
3. This will greatly aid all those from AP, Rajasthan and Delhi who have top 10k ranks but bad state ranks
4. All Nit's will be shut down by 10-15k...whereas one could get admission with a ranka s high as 30k from a place where the state ranks are low.
5. The profile of the Nit's will increase while the cut -off's for IIIT's will come down..(*hoping*)
Let me know if you need any more help..!
MECHANIX..!
Since IIT's and BITs rank up much higher than NIT's in the priority list, I don't think this would make much of a difference there. However, it will have a profound effect on the cut off ranks of colleges that are on the same level as of NIT's i.e DA-IICT, IIIT's, Jaypee, LMNIT and maybe DCE/NSIT too..Plus the total number of top 10k students joining institutes like KIIT Bhubaneswar or SASTRA will come down radically..!
Mechanix,
IITs may be in a different league and probbaly BITS-Pilani-Pilani too. Not sure about BITS-Pilani - G & H.
Also I think many students in 1000-3000 JEE ranks, may go for NIT - CS & ECE if they get (especially true for the top 3 NITs). Any other branch in NIT may not have the same charm as IIT. I think there is possibility that this new NIT rank system will give better choices for JEE rankers 3000-4000. Beyond that there may not be much impact for IIT rankers.
Same may be applicable for BITSAT guys too. Their cutoff may go down by about 10-15 points or more. Students might prefer upto machanical in good NITs compared to duals in new BITS.
Just my opinion, and want to see some arguments in support or not.
Thanks
if d institute is considered to be a national one ,den why 50% seats for own students........................
why is it not called a state level national institute of tech.?......
i shud be made purely on all india basis.............or d previous system is fyn!
see to those who support this decision...why is thr a need to keep 50% reservation to home nit...let it be open to all..i mean 100%...then people like me with air of 19k will have some chance but now we are most affected....why u know my state rank is (was) 83...now i can only go to silchar will get ece/mech thr...and then i can go to rv,pesit(ece/eee)...people like me are severly affectd...such decision should be taken beforehand..not after results are out...atleast it would have not raised our hopes to go some gud institutes...
i feel its a gud step................... but on the other hand this will adversely effect students from states with no nits.
they wont have much options left .. bt to take admissions in RECs which are of no stature at all.
before making such a decision they should have kept these students in mind 2.on their part it seems unfair.

well yes if it would have been on complete all india basis then.....@pi and all people wiyhin 10000 ranks would have probably made it to top 5 nits
