i contacted with iit roorkee telephonicly.they said so.my friend also who got a rank of 500 in obc and done the councelling at 17june had said the same thing to me.less than 600 obc has proved to be non creamy.so many seats of obc will remain vacant.please anybody put up a case in supreme court against iit.that means that less than 50 percent of people qualified in obc has proved out to be real obc.

if 200 deserving obc candidates are there in eml ,then why should they give seats of obc category to general category.instead they should call obc students from extended merit list which are deserving.please anybody help me to put up a case against iits.after all they had said to reduce the obc cut off by 10 percent but actually they did not relaax the obc cut off by a single marks and murdered 200 good obc students.

WTF??

Where did you get 200 seats.

Only 120 OBC seats could not be filled by the non-creamy layers and AFAIK they are being given to general.

pravinjaiswal - is your info on 120 seats from a reliable source?

If it is true, it is reason to celebrate!

Simple- same argument put forth for SC ST quota : It will again make imbalance in the quota proportion

General will be in greater proportion compared to SC /ST /OBC if unfilled OBC are converted to general.

To explain further - why do you think the seats are increased to 13% to accommodate the 9% OBC? - just to keep the SC/ST at 23% of the total seats,! just like a IIT problem, this!

so SC ST seats are increased, but general seats have not been increased!

yar.......u want OBCs from EML to fill d seats but not those who r much more deserving nd hve made it to the 1st half of the main merit list.........

if there arent enuf OBCs(non creamy layer) den in dat case the reservation for OBCs shud b reduced nd brought dwn from 27 %.........

I wasn't asking about the proportions or something..... I was asking the reason for those reservations....

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/IITs_struggle_to_fill_up_OBC_seats/articleshow/3146633.cms

The above linksays that 638 OBCs have proved their Non-creamy status

The CB says that there are 657 OBC seats. Add 99 for the 3 new IITs and it becomes 756.

So no of OBC seats vacant are 756-638= 118 OBC seats.

These 118 seats will be given to general AFAIK.

@pravinjaiswal

good analysis. but some OBCs were given time until 23rd to prove their non creamy status.

And where is it mentioned that the vacant seats will go to general?

If time was given till 23rd then some more OBC's may prove it.

Lets see what happens.

I said AFAIK. In IITB it was announced that left over OBC seats will be given to general. But in IITM it was declared the opposite.

I am taking side of IITB

Anything may happen. Even I don't know for sure.
