Metallurgy involves solid state physics and thermodynamics along with some physical chem and some mech courses.Material science is the study of semiconductors, composites, carbon fibres, nanotech, alloys and metals. The meta students are generally picked up by heavy electricals, steel, automobile and oil companies. Its one of the easiest branches. It has awesome scope for MS{and beyond} as it includes new exciting areas of research{semicond & nanotech} and is really hot in the US.
Naval arch is ship designing. It will involve some courses of mechanical.Ocean eng deals with ultilisation of marine resources. It s a very specific field and you cant move to other fields from it.The nav arch students are generally picked up by shipping and oil companies.Due to the recession and the new pay commission DRDO{Defence Research} has become a popular destination too.It is one of the easiest branches.
Both branches are equally easy and have good placements.Your branch doesnt count for MBA.Metallurgy and Mat eng just gives you an extra option of MS{MS is possible in nav arch too; But it might not be that useful} after 4years.
