Mining, yes. Mechanical majorly includes work on machines and stuff, so it's generally advised so. With regard to Civil in an IIT, there shouldn't be a problem as the placements one can get are varied (not just related to the construction industry).

Except mining other two branches are open to anyone as nowadays so much of softwares are involved in any stream.
