About IITs and JEE
BITS likely to overtake IITs !!!
We are aware that most sought after Engineering institutes in the country are IITs. But this is not going to be the story in future. There are many reasons in support of the same and out of the same, I would like to highlight one prime reason. The heartening fact is that the Government has introduced OBC reservation also and the overall percentage of reservation is around 50%. It means that 50% of the students alone are coming to the premier institutes on merit basis. Let us not go deep into the reservation issue on this forum but let us consider the fact of50% reservation alone in premier institutes like IITs and IIMs. Because of differences in standards among the students of same class, there is highly imbalance and Professors are also not showing much enthusiasm unlike earlier days, when was at IIT Kanpur. Recent episode at IITD is a clear cut example for it.
Because of sky rocketing salaries in the industry, many Professors of IITs are feeling highly dejected with their salaries. This is another reason for the Professors to lose interest or enthusiasm in their teaching aspects. They are preferring industrial projects over teaching an UG student routine subjects like C, Electrical/Mechanical Technology, Engineering Design etc. Added to it, the Government today announced 50% reservation for all faculty positions of IITs as well. The day may not be so long when all the Professors with great calibre may quit IITs. In such case, all IITs will just turn out to be one among so many Engineering Colleges in the country, which is highly shameful for every citizen of India.
On the other hand, BITS is completely different. There are no reservations either in students or in faculty. Only merit matters there. Because of the same, the standards of the college is getting increased year by year and hence, I have no hesitation to say that BITS WILL CERTAINLY OVERTAKE IITS IN A SHORT PERIOD.

I agree with kk545 - d quota thing wud def ruin iits - but d iit ppl r aware of this - they wud do watever it takes 2 prevent deterioration of iits.. so dont worry.. even if standard of iit goes down it wud take atleast another 4-5 yrs 2 become comparable 2 ne other coll in india...
& ya plz do use ur brains while posting comments..
eg - 'bits has 4 wrds & iit has 3' - wat a pj..

@the person who started this thread : it's one thing to educate people about which college is/will be better, and one thing to positively scream with delight and rub hands in gleem (and ur way of writing says it all, so don't explain, thank you), abt the future of a grp of institutes (and in a -ve manner). I just want to say "FU*K OFF" to the ignorant(and possibly mentally-retarded)author of this thread.ur name clearly shows u don't have the talent to qualify IIT even by reservation.Just to tell u,the number of GENERAL CATEGORY STUDENTS is still the SAME number.
There are many OBC students who have secured excellent ranks in GENERAL CATEGORY.

i agree tat bits p is going to overtake iit due to reservation nd all
one our first day we were told tat we shd be proud tat we r coming purely on merit not on reservation
then rightly faculty of iit is moving to bits.. nd also bits being private provide better facility
nd also i feel bits goa has a potential to overtake pilani due to its location mainly
as i have seen faculty of pilani shifting to goa
nd first placement of goa almost same as pilani...........
these r the things to come i guess
but now i think our dear akhunger has started another fight saying bits goa will be better than bits pilani............................

.there r countless post where one can see bits goa ppl fighting to prove their suprmacy (funny........i often feel they get some money for publicity or what)
thn they r plannin to open 5-6 more iits in d nxt 3-4 yrs,...wt tomfoolery is this??
tell me....does usa try to build an mit in evry state...or does uk try to bring up more oxfords and cambridges just for the sake of showing dat education is being givn priority??
