according 2 me delhi shouldn't b there in top three. It has water problems and the download speed is very slow. Kanpur is the best, then bombay ,then kharagpur. kanpur has grading system of 2,4,6,8,10.(more chances of ten) considering inf and faculty khg>bombay.

All IITs are different.
Kharagpur being the largest offers the highest number of subjects and thus has more seats and more IITians. Infrastructure is good. That place is a beauty with good climate and huge areas of greens!

Madras is generally preferred by South Indians. But, other people also go there.
Moreover, since Madras has become an SEZ for IT and CS, IIT Madras gets huge numbers of people who want CS and that too at not that good rank, but still with loads of supports. ;-)

Bombay! Everyone who gets a good rank prefers to go to IIT Bombay.
Some of my seniors were not getting a good subject but still took stupid subjects and that too duals and went to Bombay just to enjoy the campus life of Bombay....
The climate is excellent, it is located in Powaii, and the whole are is full of greens.
I myself am leaving Computer Science and going to pursue Mech. in Bombay coz that place rocks. U know Bombay holds the JEE every year. It also is the place of the Annual Fest. IIT, Bombay is the Jannat of all IITs.

Delhi is just famous for the brattish lifestyle and the name Delhi itself. The climate is bad, 2 degree C in winters and 45 degree C in the summers. You would be worrying more about your health there rather than your studies. It is a hell of a place.

Delhi and Kanpur campuses are nothing compared to Bombay campus. Go to Wikipedia type IIT see the pics of all the 3.
You will also see the difference.
Kanpur is just famous because H C Verma teaches there.

So I think I have told you some real good things and don't ask me to talk about Roorkee and Guwahati. But, yes, if you want to pursue some good subject then remember at the end of the day IIT is IIT.

One more thing Kharagpur is also a good IIT from the point of view that it is not Roorkee or Guwahati and you somehow get what you want even at a slightly bad rank!
