Roorkee is one of the oldest universities yarr.....though its the newest IIT (or rather the one which was LAST given an IIT status)....its been renowned for its Core branches for yeaaaaaaars....Roorkee isnt bad at all....but it falls a bit (BIT) lower when compared against stuff like IIT KGP/BOM/DEL...

Hi...
I guess any IIT is actually much much better than BITS ... now some figures to illustrate this..
IIT Guwahati placement statistics for this year: Overall Avg BTech Salary: 6.2 Lacs CSE Avg BTech Salary : 8.3 Lacs
As far as my opinion, IIT Guwahati is better than Roorkee coz:
Placements: Dont know the statistics of Roorkee, but most probably wont be better than Guwahati (this year's report may come shortly at http://www.iitg.ernet.in/placements)
Campus: Well, IIT Guwahati has the most beautiful campus I believe, plus with the happening of Inter IIT last year, a great sports complex is there, and regarding Hostels, one room per student, from First Year itself... need I say more ?
Now only drawback of Guwahati may be its being in North East region... but believe me campus is absolutely safe, like any other place in the world.. Incidents happen in outskirts of City sometimes, but dont see any reason for a student to go there on outskirts, when everything is available in Campus & main city....
Hope I have cleared some misconceptions about IITG !
