Points in favour of increase in cutoff marks :-

1) Last year match the columns did not have part marking , this year marks are given even if one part is right.

2) Last year the paper contained a lot of match the columns , this year match the columns are replaced by multiple correct answer type questions which are comparatively easier than the match the column type questions.

3) There is an increase of 70,000 aspirants this year.

4) OBC quota is applicable this year , so reduction in seats.

5) Physics and chemistry question papers were almost of same level as last year.

Points in favour of decrease in cutoff marks :-

1) Maths paper was tough.

2) The 3 new IITs will open up with 88 seats for general category and 32 for reserved category. (but this increase is less than decrease due to 9% OBC quota application so it gets nullified )

So in my opinion points in favour of increase in cutoff marks will dominate over points in favour of decrease in cutoff marks.And thats a sad news for people who are scoring in 190's .

chem was a lot tougher than last yr wrt an avg student.. n most of the ppl who write iit r those dependent only on school syllabus n text book stuff...for them the chem paper would have been 25-30 marks tougher

im saying compared to last yr...it depends on wat u mean by easy...
last yr ppl got 60 in each chem paper easily...i dun think it was tht easy this yr

hehe for me maths was easiest and chem the toughest.
but again, i dont share any on-screen chemistry with chem!

@pranavkrk ....part marking means you will get marks even if u matched some of the options correctly not necessarily fully correct....you get 1 mark for 1 correct match.

Last year paper was logic based compared to present paper that is why even Medical and AIEEE aspirants who lost hoped could get into IIT.

And I don"t think that all over India, teachers are not that foolish .

@dream u r absolutely right.there is no point abt discussing the cutoff of iitjee now.it shows an effect on the other exams which we r going 2 rite
