HEY FRDSSS... recently i hav been watching people thinking over options like NIT durgapur/hameerpur/nagpur.....wid air between 5000-10000.....now here is my view on them..plz read on...and giv it a thought.... NIT is the new name given to REC...regional engineering college...these are government collgs..wid poor infrastructre and facilities......only a few are good...keeping that also apart....these colleges lack proper faculty as well.....which is the case with many many govt/pvt collges 2day...now all this is also not a problem...but the problem is I HAVE SEEN PPL....LUKING AT NIT as a brandname!!!!!....come on....NIT'S hav still not achieved that status......the case is not at all like IIT. only IIT is a brandname....ppl compromise wid branch.4 a tag name.....IIT ROORKEE AND GUWAHATI....hav been recently added 2 the IIT list.....and ppl prefer them over even BHU ....coz of the name...but that is very fair!!...afterall...iit has tht kind of funding tht it can transform roorkee engg collg 2 IIT...but thts not the case with NIT.... NIT TRICHY....IS AN EXCELLENT COLLEGE......NIT WARANGAL...AND SURATHKAL are also very gud collgs....then comes NIT allahabad ..its a pretty old collg...then v can consider NIT rourkela..but oder than these NITs....jalandar...hameerpur...nagpur....plz ...luk into the rankings...they r not gud collgs... WAT I SUGGEST EVRY1....is...an AIR BETWEEN 5000-10000....isgud enough for ADMISSION 2 PEC and THAPAR....TRY 4 THEM........ AND LASTLY.....ONE MORE SUGGESTION...IF U HAV 2 COMPROMISE ONE THG ....BETWEEN BRANCH AND INSTITUTE......u shud never compromise wid the institute...... plz rate me if u lik it...and do temme if i hav gone wrong sumwhere

well m getting chem at thapar......i m confused by lot of mixed views,,,,dat it has no scope!!!! then wat 2 do???

I MEAN AGAR EK CHEEZE PE COMPROMISE KARNA HI PADTA HAI...COMPROMISE ON BRANCH...BUT YES.....DONT GO 4 VERY VERY OFF BEAT BRACHES LIK CERAMIC AND ALL...I HOPE U GOT IT...AND THAPAR IS A VERY GUD COLLG...CHEM IS A OK BRANCH...GO 4 IT,....RATE ME...4 MY EFFORTS

I am the only person that dosent agree wid ramya_kapoor
Look Agreed that NIT still dosent have that "Brand Value" But still It'll be the case in nxt 3-4 yrs or so.
Surely if two colleges of same status are present then one would choose a Govt. one rather than a pvt one ? rite ?
Also these NITs have being converted fron REC just a few years bak So It will take time to build the infra and provide facilities.
Example :
MANIT has in progress a Sports Complex wic is better than any IIT (see the proposed graphic @ website of MANIT ) They are also improving their website,etc. In a 2-3 year span MANIT would reach the levels of Trichy (if not better than it )
ALSO Most Important IITs are IITs because of the STUDENTS (Best of them ) and Govt pays huge funds to them. If u bring all the IIT students to a State coll. Then it would be good as an IIT !
Now many good students are coming to NITs so the scene would change in 2-3 years time span. tho i agree wid the Brand "IIT" for Sure
