.....this is a tough one.......basically, if u r not against civil.......goto pilani........it is an established institute and placements and everything may presumably be better than chem MAY BE.....but....keep in mind pilani branch change is very difficult.....if u take goa.......branch change is a possibility

you r really in a very very tricky situation.the most problematic part with ur case is that in current circumstances chemical is a better branch than civil but on the other hand BITS-pilani is better than BITS-goa.branch change being a option in the 2nd year will be very very tough in pilani because students out there are grt,relatively it wud be easy in goa.

Not at all true.It is not easy in Goa to get a high CGPA , either.
Mind you , more than 80% of the students who get into Goa , also could have got into Pilani.Also , you can't say that Goa students are on the whole inferior , just because they couldn't solve 3-4 more BITSAT qns.
Please note that there isn't a fixed correlation between your BITSAT score and CGPA.There are plenty of 5ptrs and 6 ptrs from CS and EEE also.
@Datta
I am sorry but you have no right to say that Chemical is better than Civil.I don't care about placement stats cuz many BITSians from these streams go abroad and do MS , where there are plenty of opportunities in both streams.
But at the same time , I'd advise you not to choose any branch , with the view that you'll change it.In order to go from Civil to CS/EEE , you must be in the top 10-15 ppl of either campus.This is very unpredictable , as even if u studied well in your home , in an unstructured environment of the hostel , even the best get distracted and do badly in their exams.
All I can suggest is that do some research on both the streams and choose the one which you like.

civil is more 2 do with phy & chemical is naturally chem. acc to present scenario civil engineers r in great great demand.acc many experts that this situation will remain till villages turn 2 towns ,towns 2 cities, citiees 2 megacities. civil is no more considered a low esteem branch.
think again ...
dont leave bits pilani for goa unless u r highly interested in chemical . if u just want a good job take civil.in many college civil gets 100% placement while even e&c cant achieve( am not talking about bits).
bits pilani is among top 10 but bits goa (just check) may not b in top 30.

I must differ from what you have said.
Civil is not directly related to Physics , as in you don't need to see what is going at the molecular level(always).
It is like saying that Computer Science is related to Inorganic Chemistry , just because Computers are built from semiconductors.
Similarly , Chemical Engg is not completely related to Chemistry.In chemical engg , you learn about how to operate a factory/its components which produce Chemicals.You will learn about mass and heat transfer operations etc.I must say that Chemical Engg is more similar to Mechanical Engg than Chemistry
I request Mr Deepak Agarwal to shed some light on this.
I agree with the Infra stru boom you are talking abt.
Also , I'd like to tell you that its BITS Pilani -Goa Campus .It is not a separate coll. by itself .By analogy , the same relationship is shared by IIT-R(main Roorkee Campus) and its Saharanpur Campus(where ppl do Pulp and Paper engg).I'd request someone from IIT-R to confirm this.

@BITS360.com
sorry,if i hurt u.i may be wrong i was just putting forward my own view but i can say 1 thing and u may agree that in coming yrs both the branches civil & chemical wud hav a gr8 boom and even overtake IT...etc.and on any given day oil,petroleum,infrastructure,construction......companies will give better pay packages than there IT counterparts.

The branches that u r getting are more or less same on stature...I wud therefore advice u to go for the better Brand name..ie.BITS Pilani..also that Civil engg is getting hotter by the day and only IITs..BITS ...DCE nd a few NITs offer Civil Engg....Best OF Luck.

No problems!Even I had such misconceptions before I joined college.
Yes I agree with what you've said.All I wanted to say was that once u join BITS(any campus) and you like ur subject , it'll be much easier for you to go abroad and do MS in that field.Basically , you don't have "wait" for any boom to come(in India) , as then you'll be a global player.
