None

HI  TO ALL  GOIITIANS !
MY IITJEE AIR IS 1792 AND AIEEE AIR-1107 SR-90(DELHI).

THE GOOD OPTIONS WITH ME ARE
1) CIVIL AT ALL IITs
2) AEROSPACE AT KHARAGPUR AND (MADRAS IF LUCKY).
3) MECHANICAL AT GUWAHATI AND (ROORKEE IF LUCKY).
4) ENGINEERING DESIGN WITH M.TECH IN AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING (MADRAS).
5) ENERGY ENGINEERING AT KGP.
6) CS AND ECE AT A GOOD NIT.

Q1) I WUD LIKE YOU TO RANK THESE OPTIONS IN THE ORDER OF PREFERENCES.(KEEPING PARAMETERS SUCH AS INFRASTRUCTURE, PLACEMENT ,FACULTY ETC IN MIND)

Q2) ALSO , I WUD LIKE TO KNOW THAT ARE THE FUTURE PROSPECTS BETTER FOR AEROSPACE ENGINEERING OR CIVIL ?

RATINGS ASSURED IF USEFUL INFORMATION IS PROVIDED WITH.

Hi tarun!!!!!
R U a dropper or a fresher?
Well according 2 me u have an excellent renk in IIT JEE so don't consider any other colleges than IITs
But when u get a rank >1500 U SHOULD NOT LOOK FOR PREFERENCES amongst IITs
so here goes.......
2>3>4>5>1>6
Apart from these u can get very good branches at other IITs too
like BIOTECH.( u know highest package at IITKRG for it last year was 10k)
Best of luck!!

HI PERPETUAL
THANX FOR THE REPLY, I AM A FRESHER.
I WUD LIKE TO KNOW WHY PEOPLE (INCLUDING YOU) CONSIDER CIVIL A NOT A VERY GOOD OPTION.
NO PREFERENCES HERE!
JUST AN HONEST QUESTION
REGARDING BIOTECHNOLOGY, I JUST REPEL FROM THE VERY WORD 'BIO'.
(I TOOK NON-MEDICAL JUST TO STAY AWAY FROM BIOLOGY)

Me too repel from the word BIO just wanted 2 know if u had any interest in it or not
As far as CIVIL is considered i want 2 give u an opinion collected from my seniors>>>>
see if u go for branches having pure physics imbibed like Engg. physics etc. and electrical mech. etc. in the context of placements almost in 90% companies u can get fat salaries and if u wanna go for branches like civil u won't get a job in INTEL and MICROSOFT (at abroads)
BUT if u wanna persuade a MS/MBA u must go 4 civil branch at IITB/IITD
cheers

HEY PERPETUAL, THE BRANCHES YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT ARE VERY GOOD AND ATTRACTIVE.
BUT I AM GETTING THESE IN LESSER KNOWN IITs (GUWHATI AND ROORKEE) .
IT IS SAID THAT THE PLACEMENT THERE IS WEAK. IS IT?
IF YES , THEN HOW THE HELL AM I GONNA GET THOSE FAT PAY PACKAGES.
IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER INFO PLZ SHARE
I AM GETTING AEROSPACE IN KHADAGPUR. DOES THIS BRANCH COME IN YOUR LIST OF ELITE BRANCHES. (HAVING PHYSICS EMBEDDED IN THEM)

Dude AEROSPACE is an excellent branch GO FOR IT WITHOUT ANY FURTHER HESITATION and remeber IITKRG has the best faculty and branch change facility(for this visit this>>>>
http://www.cse.iitk.ac.in/users/dheeraj/ideas/jee-counsel.html)

And apart from IITK and IITB it is the most renowned IIT
And furthermore u can have an excellent career in it(provided u LOVE PHYSICS)
U may even join NASA (how cool is this!!!!)

And rely on me AEROSPACE at IITM is the most coolest thing 2 do than civil at IITs
And rest depends upon u
cheers!!!!

i wud reduce the options to civil at IIT delhi...cs/ee at NSIT,DCE,NITS(u will definitely get NSIT).....unless and untill u have very distinct interst in aerospace then only go-scope nt in india only outside-USA...aim for NASA then.......i wud value civil more than aerospace...reat of the options i dont think are as good as DCE/NSIT compsc or ece if u r nt willing to take civil!!!

thanx sir for dat reply,
now wat acc to you is better ece/cs in dce/nsit or civil iit delhi
taking all parameters like infra, reputation, placement, faculty etc in consideration
one more question sir,
why people always look down to civil as a not a very good branch.

Hi Tarun. Congrats yaar once again for your JEE and AIEEE rank. Your hardwork has really paid off. Only few like you, are not lucky enough to get get fruitful rewards for what they had given in.

I have interest in both Civil and Aerospace. But alas ! I don't have that good rank to get them in IIT. Anyways, Civil has a bright future in India as so much construction would come up in near future. The point is, the starting salaries would not be as good as the ones in comp or electronics. So many students does not give too much importance to civil. But yeah !! surely as the time grows you can get a good salary too. About 20 years of experience in this field can fetch you a salary of equivalent of today's 40 lakhs p.a in a top construction firm of India ( only if you happen to be among the top 5 civil engineers in India ). The same amount of experience in electronics or comp can earn you much much more salaries.
Talking about aerospace, it has much more physics and therefore much more excitement ( at least to me). Unfortunately, there isn't much scope in India for this branch. But in next few years, Boeing and Airbus would establish their research centres in India. They would need top quality engineers and would give you handsome salaries too. Even if that does not happen, You can always go abroad and work for NASA or for private firms and enjoy a good quality of life. Or if you are a patriotic person, you can work in ISRO. You may not get a very good salary here, but ISRO is up with a lot of fantastic projects and a very busy schedule. You can really help in landing first Indian Astronaut on moon !!! Government is increasing it's funds to ISRO every year and who knows, by the time you join, you can get good salaries too. But at least you will get lot of respect and job satisfaction in ISRO, which is a very important factor.
Now, you have scored a very good rank in JEE, If I would had been in your place I would have never given my rank for anything. But I would be in a really really tough position if I had an option of getting computers in NSIT/DCE. On one hand you have IIT brand name, and on other you have computer science. It's really tough to decide. If you have NSIT comp, companies like Yahoo and Google come to hire you, which have the best work culture in the world and even IITians die to get those jobs. And the salaries you get at NSIT for comp (and only for comp or elec) are much more than what you can get for civil or aero even at IIT. And you have a really exciting career as a computer engineer which make it much more exciting since you have done it from a good institute like NSIT. Infact, Computers from a good institute like NSIT, is the only available option that can alone beat the IIT/IIM combo. But at the same time, nobody wants to give away JEE rank, especially if you have already decided to go for MBA later. But telling you, cracking CAT is very tough ( at least twice as tough as cracking JEE because number of seats are less and same number of students compete and unlike JEE, at least half of them are dead serious).
Anyways, If I had been in your place, I would have prayed to god to fail me in NSIT/DCE so that I don't have any other option available. I would really want to go to IIT at this rank.

And yes, at NSIT faculty, infra is way too gud than any other institute. And for computer science at least, salaries and placements are good than those what you will get at IIT for civil etc.

Since I don't have a good rank, I really pray to god to get comp at NSIT/DCE. May god be with me, coz even I have worked as hard as you and Sehej.

thanx yaar amit for that cool reply
it was really good having your point of view on this issue
and yes best of luck to you from my side for your results of dce/nsit exam.
i think , the fact that you did not got good rank in jee should not disturb you much as the loss in this case is more of the iits than yours.
so just forget about it and concentrate on the opportunities future offers to you.

BEST OF LUCK
