I have some interesting info here. I caught up with one of my seniors (2 years elder). He is doing civil in NITT. He got an AIR of 40000 and a state rank of 500 (TN). He got civil engg in NIT trichy. This was 2 years back. He got civil only in the 3rd round of counseling. He was not even eligible for central counseling, he only went for state counseling and got through. So those of you who are in the 40k-50k range, don't lose hope. You might get something this year, that too in an NIT.

some guy I know from 2 years ago took mining in Suratkal(not sure if it is suratkal, but one of the best ones) in the third list. Some time later, he got a seat in civil. He took it. He then got a slide to electronics and communication. So now, he's doing electronics and communication at suratkal. Oh, and I forgot, he got a 36000 rank and gave the aieee from Maharashtra. If you don't believe me, don't. But if anyone is genuinely interested in talking to him, I'll ask his permission to give out his email address.
Moral of the story: Everything works out. You should still be worried, but dont do anythng drastic

i am from maharashtra AIR- 35900 state rank - 1571 and i have lost all hopes . dude no one bothers about us. it is either top rankers or SC ST's i feel like killing myself. what about you.

Oh jeez... Just hang on. I bet you will get an NIT. That too a south nit. But it will be in 2nd or third counselling.

By the way I am getting BIT Mesra, MANIT ( NIT B ) , NIT Calicut
for B.Arch ! I am interested in it. But people are not very interested in taking it. Also wat abt Jobs n all ??

hey ppl....hang on...the two cases mentioned above may have very bad air but their state ranks were superb....i think thats what helped them.....what do u guys say..??

nigeria_sms....is very very correct....it depends on state rank yar...and do u want 2 gamble wid 2nd and 3rd counselling..in 2nd and 3rd counselling..only institute is alloted.....branch is given afterwards.....and if a state has such a low level of competition.....tht wid 40000 rank a person gets a state rank of 500...then mind the fact tht most of them wil compete 4 the nit of their very own state only....as they wil hav very very little chances of getting into NIT of sum oder state....

See... Now if you have an air of around 50000, and called for central counselling, and if another person has an air of 60000, and he is called for state counselling, then the person who has 60k air shud get some seat in a nit of his state, as he has been called for state counselling. that means that the person with 50k air has much better chances as his air is also much better. and mind u, almost all the state specific students get placed in nit.

my frd's cousin is frm karnataka he's got an AIR of abt 9000 nd SR of abt 120 i got AIR 5900 nd SR 1050 ... will he get a better branch?? forgot to say i m frm ap
