It will probably clear some misconceptions about colleges and how they are ranked and stuff
Talking bout Manipal ,last yr. i got 1224 rank in manipal but preffered to drop a yr than to take addm. and since my bro is a stud of KMC(mbbs manipal) i know d standard of anipal very well
currently in manipal....in the year 2008....many students have come who have preffered manipal over bits goa and hyderabad.....there is no point comparing the two....coz manipal is lot better than bits goa.....this year you will rarely find students bunking classes(fine imposed on the students per hour of class bunk...50/hour...)
there are hell a lot of exams here....hence students are forced to study....and as i said this years' counselling has answered all critics regarding the student quaity in mit,manipal.....ece over at 1900....mech. over at 3300...comp. sc. over at 2800....civil over at 4000...chemical over at 4400...printing over at 5200.....e&e over at 3200....aerospace over at 4100....automobile over at 4300....i&p over at 4200...i&c over at 3900.....so you know gone are those days....when ppl. at ranks of 10k and 15k used to get mech. and civil out here....so get real and try to accept the truth......
placements here are also very good.....the mech. department here is the best in the country after iit-k and iit-kgp....it is graded as A+ by HRD Ministry of India...bits goa and all cant even come close to it....companies like schlumberger,ingersoll rand,honda,toyota,shelletc... visit here on a regular basis.....so all critics shut up and watch the rise of might mighty MIT......
I wud agree with ppl here tat placement isnt d only thing tat matters..but 'bayern..' has gown way overboard in praising his coll..
i wudnt wanna start ne debate here 'cause i know its futile..every1 wud support their colls...but keep one thing in mind tat u r comparing a coll tat is hardly 5yrs old 2 a coll tat has a long history behind it..
4 a 'baby' coll (as some wud call BITS-Pilan,Goa) isnt it an 'achievement' 2 get a package of 8.5lakh in its very first yr of placement??? & 'bayern..' dude..BPGC isnt famous 4 'drugs' & stuff like manipal...atleast agree with tis.
dont talk abt d xamz mate - v ppl dont go 2 colls 2 become a nerd..do we?? theres no point in mentionin abt ur internal xamz..
& abt d deptt..u havent given ne proof of ur 'award'..did u??
as far as BPGC is concerned..this sem its highest package if of 10lakh (donno abt mit)..this is only its 2nd yr of placement.
i'd prefer BPGC ne day 2 MIT
Its quite an interesting question.......i don't want to say that manipal is bad.....its a pretty good college.....
This year i gave bitsat and manipal as well...i got 2200 rank in manipal and 257 score in bitsat..and i didn't give a thought of manipal..not bcuz it is bad....it is good of course....but i guess BITS PILANI GOA wud give a better platform......if u wanna consider placements...then the 1st year campus the highest package wz 10 lacs....so its gonna get better certainly.....i will certainly support bits pilani goa as i am a student there..infact the guy who lives in front of my room in the hostel had an air of 345 in aieee,we have around 10 ppl who competed in the IITs..and many who were in the extended merit list.....many have come here leaving the mech of pilani as well so that they can get comp sci here........so many ppl can't b foolish at the same time....that says it all
and if u r puttin bits goa down just cuz its new then that's quite funny actually......u can't say that a college is inferior cuz its new.......in fact if i wud have got hyderabad which begun this year i wud put it above manipal in my list.....
The only thing i can say after getting into the college and knowing it better is that "I dont regret".... although none of my friends supported me.. i had to go against sum in my family but i guess in the end i made the correct decision......and i am proud to b a bitsian now.........
still its personal choice......i don't have the right to comment on other colleges but i can tell abt my college.....its amongst the loveliest place to b in.....its beautiful...LIFE IN BITS GOA ROCKS.......
see my dear friends the perception about a certain brand of college is always very important and okay i agree that bits pilani is better than manipal....actually a lot better....but goa and hyderabad are still new comers...they will always be valued bcoz of the reputation of bits pilani....so basically comparing them with manipal is stupidity right now (which was sadly done on this thread)....
someone was telling me about drugs in manipal....let me tell u that please dont spread these types of illogical statements without prior and proper information.....all the students at least in my hostel and the other hostels meant for indians are free from all such stuff....they dont hv time for all that....they are pretty busy with their studies or clubs like iaeste or ieee or akshay urja and many others.....see yaar mit, manipal has changed from a money based institute to a merit based one....(ppl still feel about it the way they used to do 10 years ago...)
and well even i dunno where i can give u proof of the branch grade u were asking me....but my professors only told me about this...not only the mech. deptt. profs but the other deptt. profs as well....even i know quite a few jee rankers in my university....i myself cleared extended merit list in jee...and got 271 in bits....but my rank in manipal enat was gud enuf for a complete freeship and i joined....
well mukhtab...thanx for your comments...now plz tell me in which manipal university is your neighbour studying...??? sikkim or karnataka...??? and he must hv got thru the nri sponsored category...where only a relative of yours who is compulsarily an nri...has to officially sponsor your entire education process in the university....
Its quite a strange reply frm bayern i guess...........its not so cool to say that comparing goa with manipal is stupidity (at least).....i guess u r a bit too proud of being in manipal......evry1 shud b proud of wherever he/she is but in ur case its actually a bit too much........
if u r really bothered abt placements then the highest package in the 1st year itself was 10lpa...and so far this year.. quite a few students have gone with 12lpa.....the very 2nd year............i would like to draw ur attention to the fact that being a new college doesn't mean that its not comparable to manipal(an older college)...............if that's the case i'm quite sure u wud not compare any of the new IITs either.......
I don't really think all this is gonna affect u much....so we shud rather put off this discussion................
please dont say bits pilani can match iits u r misguiding ur juniors.bits is a big fraud trying to sell itself in the name of academic flexibilities and all.my brother got 96.5% in 12th and he chose iit medak over bits pilani.......and he is progressing very well .everyone knows bits pilani has lost its sheen.iit tag always does wonders and that is definitely an added advantage when one is pursuing post graduate studies.brand name does help.........and we all know iit(old ones)>iit(new ones)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>bits pilani.rankings in india today are perfectly correct.bits lacks confidence thats why they have opted out. who r all these ppl to start this damn sick thread.bits is a local institute of rajasthan devoid of funds ,iits r global be it delhi,kanpur or medak,hyderabad.even if students get in through quota still their iq will be superior to those muggers (so called board )toppers who get in bits.bits is a chunkhouse of iit rejects.
Impressive talk, but I can't believe you people are comparing BITS with THE IITs. Even though the new IITs don't have a campus ready, but they surely have the tag right? They'll obiously get amazing placements. Why bother to look for other colleges at all!
But I didn't understand one thing, how are you comparing the colleges? Wouldn't it be right if you had 2 students of equal potential/interests/knowledge, sent them to the 2 colleges, and then compared their performance?
I could've joined ABC college and would've said that I'm happy & things are going great. Maybe because I'll never know how better things can ever be.
PS: Don't bother flaming. Not really in a mood to fight here.
