Guyz,
Cud u temme how much marks/rank u need for mech in :
1.IITs (Any)
2.Top NITs (Warangal/Trichy and others)
3.BITS (pilani/goa)

Is it worth to do mechanical engg from the three or shud i opt for VJTI Comps ?? (i am interested in both comps and mech) Vjti is no1 college of mumbai and it gives addmission on basis of cet(quite simple if u know the matter no negative marking and stuff) so what shud i do...i obviously wont get bits/nits/bits comp i know that (if i do it will be AWESOME) IS MECHANICAL WORTH IT IN ANY GOOD COLLEGE ?? (Placement/Demand/etc wise)<< MAIN QUESTION !!!

Please Answer how much ever u know and if u dun atleast make an estimate

for iit bombay in 2005
ranks between 350 -850 got mech enggin which b.tech was upto~540.and rest dd.
mech engg is a core course and will be so forever.i feel that package in mech. engg is less as compared to cs today.
so if ur real concern is earning money probably u should opt for cs.
else if u r really interested ,mech engg is a very vast subject .it covers -robotics,mechatronics,thermal fluidics, manufacturing practices, computer aided design etc.
my personal opinion is that if u r not getting mech in top colleges of india(according to me-iit,nit,bits,ism,itbhu)then u should go for comp

hey nunoxic
sorry for the late reply , was caught up somewhere else .................
well first of all let me tell you that mechanical dept is very
rewarding if you really want it to be..... it all depends on you !!!!
but you know comp science guys are still considered to be " most
wanted" in companies..... .....
IIT Delhi's mechanical dept has a reputation that precedes its word
....... DCE has also got a very nice mechanical prog........
placement wise , well again it depends on you whether you want to go
to mechanical field or want to go for other jobs after your
graduation..... the mechanical jobs are there but they may not be as
highly paid as consultation or IT jobs ................
demand wise , well mechanical engineers are needed
everywhere!!!!!!!!!! so the demand has always been and will always be
there ..............
nywayz for your case i will suggest the same thing as above that you
should join mechanical if and only if you are getting that in IITs and
some other top colleges........ otherwise i think you can join VJTI
comps .......but again please make sure that this college has decent
placement ( and preferebly not in companies like
infy,tcs,etc)..............
anymore queries /discussion is always welcome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
..................keep it cooollllll........................
