Central notification to affect State students By A Staff Reporter GUWAHATI, June 12 ? A recent notification of the Ministry of Human Resources Development on admission into the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) will seriously affect the career prospects of the students of Assam. What is more interesting is that the Ministry issued the notification after the announcement of the results of the admission tests.
Official sources said that the Ministry issued the notification on June 9 last and it totally changed the seat allotment pattern in the NITs. The notification said that the seats in the NITs are to be filed up from amongst the candidates qualifying the Al India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. As per the present practice, 50 per cent of the seats in an NIT is filed up by domicile candidates of the state where the institute is located and the rest of the seats are allotted to different states and union territories.
But from the current year, the Ministry has decided to abolish the quota of the non-domicile seats and those seats would be filled up on all India merit basis.
Official sources pointed out that the decision of the Human Resource Development Ministry would adversely affect the career prospects of the students of the backward states like Assam. Sources pointed out that the NIT, Silchar, has 460 seats as per the rules, 230 seats would go to domicile students of Assam and the rest are to be filled up with candidates from other states of the country. Earlier, in lieu of 230 seats in Silchar allotted to students of other states, the same number of seats were allotted to students of Assam in other 19 NITs located in other states of the country. But as per the recent circular, no seat will be reserved for the students of Assam in the other NITs of the country, which will not only affect the career prospects of students of Assam, but also of the other backward states of the country.

actually , 50% reservation will be 4 student$ of respesctive state
(IT IS NOT GOING 2 ABOLISH)
But change will be that
THER WILL NOT BE ANY ALLOCATION OF SEAT$ 4 PARTICULAR STATE
let me explian more clearly considering case disscussed at starting of this thread> >>
50% seats or 230 seats of goes to assam students
and rest seats are open 2 all india (not considering state and and state rank$ of other student)
**********************************************************************************
NOW , state rank will be significant only if one wants 2 take admission in his state NIT

All this will be cleared if you look at the opening and closing rank system of last year.
Till now, each state had a %age representation by their state ranks and got admission to any institute in the country on the basis of their state ranks but according to the new directive issued by the HRD, only the domicile state has 50% reservation in the host NIT and the rest of 50% is for the other students all over India.
This will only adversely affect those students who are in regions where the regional merit is low as compared to the rest of India...
In short, NIT is fast approaching the IIT way of admissions, except that the domicile state students have 50% admission in their respective institutes.

in every NIT ,, there used be specific no. of seats 4 particular state (but this method will no longer be valid, pakka 100%)
For eg .assume that NIT silchar has allocated 14 seats to Delhi students , 2 in CS , 2 in IT , 2 in ECE ,etc
so these seats will be given to DELHI students only
in this process many times it was observed that many states with poor education have upper hand .... for example if u go thru cutoff of various NITs with state ,, Delhi cutoff was 5ooo , while for WB it was in 20000 ...
http://ccb.nic.in/CCB2008/OrCr/Engineering/Eng/orcr.htm
HOPEFULLY introduction of new METHOD will be benefitial 2 all gud students ignoring state bias
i will upload last yrs information brouchure 2 help u to understand bttr,,,,
rate 2 acknowledge my effort$
