I have been an above average student all my life...92.7% in 10th and 93.4% in 12th(pcm 97%)..

but however things didnt go well for me in the competitive exams...partly because of my poor health in between the class 12 ..which caused a crunch of time..so i cudnt perform to my optimum....

Well now i feel, if i can manage to put another year of some real hardwork....i can surely crack jee with a pretty gud rank...

But at this point, I am confused between whether i shud choose to join a B.sc college or not..With  my class 12 marks as well as state level achievements in sports., I can easily get admission into colleges like St.Stephens ,

Ramjas etc. But a good college demands good amount of hardwork...I fear that if i join the colleges along with preparing for JEE...I might miss out on both...vuz remember these days colleges have a minimum attendance criteria (plus  all the colleges are in north delhi...I am in  south delhi)..so half of my day wud be gone in travelling and the rest half in the college itself..  I dont fear hardwork...in fact i thrive on it..be it studies or sports..

My parents feel that if I dont join a college, I might not be considered as a priority at the time of placements...cuz most companies consider non-droppers and I wud be requiring a certificate that wud prove that i didnt just waste a year preparing solely for JEE...I still dont kno how much of this is true....

Well, by now I'm kind of worried...I got BITS on 10 Jun...but my mind continues to think beyond that...

I have been working hard for the last month...for BITS..but remember its still about luck a lil bit...

So GOIITIANS (especially seniors and droppers)....WHAT SHOULD I DO????

i would suggest that you drop and not join a college
and concentrate only on your JEE studies
as far as your parents' concern regarding priority not being given to droppers is absolutely untrue..there is no such discrimination

Actually , if you are interested , even St. Stephen's is an amazing place. They have a great repo , very good Alumni , and superb placements.
Depends on you , whether you want to do Engg only , or MSc Eco would be good too.

that is what the problem is...stephens a game worth a win...missing out on it is kind of foolish...but I have never been interersted in theoritics...but my parents are adamant about not dropping a year...they think it wud be the  biggest mistake of my life..Plus, these colleges are way too far from my place, and there are hardly any coaching institutes in north delhi except vm...

Hello man ! U sound very depressed , first of all I'd suggest that u'd better check out whether what ur parents are saying abt that job stuff is perfectly true , all parents wish for the good . but U and I know that nasty rumours are always there .
BITS is not bad either , the resevation is not there , so do ur best , forget the rest , I think if U 'll do ur BITS prep. U'll stand a better chance getting in there , than into IIt next year , because the reservation is going to increase by another 9% .So try for BITS . Go ahead but make sure that U fire on all cylinders. BTS and IIT are almost the same nowadays . gud placements .
So , why do you waste another year , just to get into IIT . It's not the ultimate thing , who knows U might be better of @ BITS than in IIT , all the thinking left for U is abt 3 hrs from now , then decide , It's finally upto U Man . Whatever happens Happens for the good.

GOOD LUCK ! MAY GOD GIVE YOU A GOOD LIFE.

First thing is that there is nothing like

(1) Poor

(2) Average or Above average

(3) Brilliant or Genious

secondly make sure where exactly you want to see youself after ften or tweleve years if you ares seeing your self as a VP or CEO ( as most of the teenager of your age think ) There is abosoulutly no harm in Joining St stephans the the shortest way to be a VP or CEO is through CAT and  CAT is an entrance which sees IIT or St stepahan almost on the same scale so free yourself from all your prejudice ( Like you said you are above average ) and see yourself where you are after five or ten years and chase your dreams .

Best of Luck

Hey dave,

Stephens is great. BUT if you only study for JEE during that year and screw your DU marks, things become really hard, it is really hard for you to pull up your %. One of my friends studied Maths at stephens for a year, took all the engineering entrances again and is now doing MSc Bio Sc at BITS Pilani Goa Campus. His first year %age wasn't that great though (at stephens).

Based on what I gather from my interaction with DU students, the need for further education/training post/during DU is felt. As in, more people from Stephens prefer to take up further studies/CAT/Civil Services etc than placements compared to engg colleges. I'm not 100% sure abt this, so feel free to correct me.

I am a dropper too. If you are confident of being regular with your studies for JEE, and most importantly, if you have a backup in the form of some NRI quota seat in a decent coll like Anna Univ/Thapar or enough money for BITS Dubai, go for a drop, since you have a backup plan (or if your'e willing to pay, go now itself :P). Otherwise, it could be a gamble which might or might not pay off. I don't know if stephen will take you in next year, do enquire with them. I know a guy who studied law at Amity for a year and is now doing BSc Chem at Stephens.

In my case, I had secured admission into Uni of Toronto, BITS Dubai and Singapore Mgmt Univ during my entrances, so that eased the pressure off me. In the worst case scenario, my dad would have had to part with a lot of his hard earned cash. I was able to take my exams with a cool head, and i'm now MORE than happy in BITS!

And most importantly... you're exams are not over yet! study hard for BITSAT, do NCERT thoroughly (for Phy and Chem atleast), it shouldnt take much time if you've done it properly before! Plan your strategy out carefully for the exam, concentrate on solving maximum questions correctly within a time limit rather than solving hard questions.. all questions have same no. of marks, so its worthless to spend more than a minute on a question... get back to it in the end IF you have time left. usually these hard questions are time traps, nothing else :P  Trust me leave a hard question the moment you see it coz there is no point! In BITSAT if u solve all the easy Qs correctly, you'll sail through easily.... take my word for that!

All the best, study hard, post your BITSAT score at www.bits360.com/forum once you're done! Also, since i might not visit this thread, PM me once youre done. Incase you get a decent score, fill in all options at all campuses, and do look into the MSc Hons dual degree program, it is a simple concept, and people have a LOT of misconceptions about it!
