Hello, I'm from VIT and I've noticed quite a few threads with posters who seem bent on maligning my institute - posters who have no idea, who've never been to VIT and those who repeat the same lies which have been passed on from one person to another without anyone bothering to verify these claims.
I wouldn't have started this thread, but a friend of mine notified me of the alarming rate at which the number of prospective candidates were dwindling because of these rumours. My message to the students who were dissuaded from joining - Do not make a foolish decision guided by students who aren't in VIT in the first place. What do they know of the institute they've never been in the first place? One year ago I was in your position. The rumours at that time were of all kinds ranging from how 200 girls got pregnant to 40% of the students are drug addicts. Such nonsense! If VIT was really a college of which provided education of inferior quality, what would be the need to start such rumours? The poor education would be enough to turn the students away.. why these lies?
Regarding bribing India Today: are you really stupid enough to believe that you can bribe a national level magazine without taking any risk? The slightest slip and VIT wouldn't even BE in the list let alone get ranked. Think about it. VIT was ranked at 14 last year.. this year it's at 10. Is it because we paid extra? Heck no! I've been there the whole time.. I've seen the efforts the management took to put it where it belongs.
As a final request - verify your claims before you post them. It would be better for everyone if you posted what YOU found and not repeat what some liar has told over and over again. To the people who aren't attending the counselling even if they got ranks.. think again. You're missing a great chance.

BITS didn't participate. It didn't last year too. Why?
I've already said the bribe argument is too risky to be implemented. A college with VIT's reputation cannot afford to take the risk.
You find good and bad teachers everywhere. Find me one college in India where this isn't true. While a few of them may not be good, you cannot overlook the good teachers. How do you know that the average brilliance of a student in CEC is higher than that of VIT? Did your friend tell you? Did he personally conduct IQ test at Vellore and Coimbatore?
Irrespective of the marks obtained.. the ranks will be the same. I get more marks than you: I have a better rank.
This is a private engineering college. Not all seats will be given through the rank. The VIT people call you to give you ranks? You'll be lucky if your call gets through and lasts for more than a minute. Don't expect yourself to get away with a lie. The people here might not be able to see through your posts. But I can - I'm from the college. Yeah, the management slogged to get the rank. I saw it myself for a year. What did you see? Rather what did you hear?

chal for a sec i assume ur college slogged it out and they as per u deserve the raNK Ur coll HAs GOT IN D RECENT SURVEY.. FOR gods SAKE vit was rankd 10....i mean ahead of BITS,DCE,IIIT,THAPAR, AND ALL NITS....being the maximum investor in advertisements in newspaprs and magazines helps...ok...and plus thr are crap rankings all over the place man and india todays` has 2 b d most insane 1....it evn rankd RVCE bangalore in top 10 few yrs bak....it evn features a colll like MSRIT is rankd at 15th smthn...YA EVN THEY MITE B SLOGGIN NOWADAYS ....see i am in 3rd yr MIT,manipal...evn my colege was rankd 13 in telegraph a couple of yrs bak....but u shldnt evr believe in its authenticity[rankings`]...u shld laugh it off man...dont evr think ur colege shld b at 10....i gave viteee in 2006 AND GOT A RANK OF 4356 AND I DINT GO 4 D 1ST COUNSELLING...AFTER A MNTH ON UR GR8 COLLEGES` WEBSITE THR WAS A NOTICE ABT ANDR ROUND OF COUNSELLLIN wid 600 smthng withdrawls 4m ur college wid a capacity of 1200 smthn seats......see evn my coll aint gr8 by any standards but wn i joined mit in 2nd round of counselling thr wr arnd 120 withdrawls outta 900 smthn seats..i sent thm[ur coll] a mail telling thm abt my preference of branches[IT,MECH,ECE.... in dat order]and i got IT ....but i dint join ....anyways man ...i kno ur college is pickin UP IN PLACEMENTS wid some changes in ur placement rules[dat isnt sloggin xactly]that now allow 2 jobs wid dream option.....rite....i have a [4th year eee] frnd of mine thr in vit so i know quite a bit...so u may break into rank 25-20 in some decent rankings...[dataquest....for 1]...but not 10 man...colleges like vit,mit,amrita or wateva B RUNG private colleges in india mite get better but never to the point WN U CAN MENTION THM IN D SAME BREATH WITH INSTIS LIKE BITS,NIT[NOT ALL BUT AT LEAST TOP3-4],IIITS,DCE,NSIT,THAPAR[I WONT EVN mention IITS here coz its in andr league of its own ]...so pls man...dont defend india today ...having deep pockets helps....
I've already mentioned that BITS didn't participate. I request you to read my other posts before replying and it's easily comparable to the NITS, if it isn't already better. I don't know about BITS, but NITS for sure...

Maybe you're right and VIT may not deserve the tenth rank. But what do you mean we can't mention it in the same breath as the colleges you've mentioned. Did God himself come down and lay down the foundation stone for these colleges? Blessing them to be unsurpassed for eternity? Colleges change.. things improve. You have to accept progress.

What kind of logic is that? It's a private engineering college. The government doesn't fund it.
Dude stop foolling yourself and other people on this forum . In the fobes ranking for the year 2008 VIT is not even in the first 70 colleges . In the first 20 places are the 7 iit's , ism , bhu , then comes 8 nit's , and bits and dce and nsit. Fobes is considered the best and the most reliable ranking world over..
You are saying that vit is comparable to NITS then let me tell u that i myself am a student of NIY rourkela which is con sidered just an average NIT and is below NITs at trichy , warangal , surutkal , jaipur , bhopal and i have seen vit also last yer as i by mistake attended the counsllig and i am sure about the fact that vit is no ware comparable to nit rourkela in any respect forget abt comparing to other nits which i have mentioned..
In other words, the depth of your research was limited to the day of counselling; you verified and came to your conclusion in what might have been at most a few hours. In that short span of time you concluded that nit rourkela was better in every aspect, correct? Not even comparable? That's a huge exaggeration. I can understand if you feel that your college is better? But not comparable? Don't be arrogant.
even NIT SILCHAR is a lot better than vit.

Yeah... but the IITs went below their dignity to participate in the survey right? Are you implying that BITS has greater prestige than IIT itself? KK Birla was blind and far fetched if he thought he could write BITS in the same sentence as MIT i.e. assuming what you said in the last sentence is true. Even IIT is no where near close to MIT.
Administrator: There seems to be a bug in the script. I cannot get the last paragraph out of the quoted block. Besides, your script inserts large volumes of space between paragraphs. Everytime I post I have to edit and delete the large paragraphs of space.
