i think its something like.....

1>those seats to which people dont report to within 20th july, are called dropout seats

2>SLIDING:- these dropout seats are offered to ppl, in the same institute who have already been alloted some seat and have reported.(ie in 1st round)

3>its done branch wise, and within a branch merit (air) wise.....

4>after all the sliding, remaining seats used for 2nd round

AFAIK drop out seats are given to Form 2 candidates who have not got anything through Form 1. What you take through Form 1 is frozen and can't be changed, AFAIK.

I know this system is unfair but AFAIK it is true. If you get anything you opted for in form 1 then there is no sliding nor Form 2. I know it is unfair but then the Indian system is mad. So many reservations even for millionaire OBCs etc. This is the way it is.

Then sliding must be after drop out seats get accomodated probably. Is that right? OBviously if a drop out seat has a higher AIR(better AIR as in) he must be given the choice of the seat first.

and is there any chance that someone will endup with a branch worse than the initial one? (i know this is impossible, just asking)

If you have been alloted a branch there is no way that somebody can take that away from you. If at all sliding exists it will make the seat better, not worse.
