can anybody tell me the number of solutions to 4 by 4 magic square
magic square is the suare in which the sum of the numbers in each row , column and in diagonal is equal

Write the nos. from 1 to 16 in the order and then reverse the no. along the diagonals

5   11  10  8
9   7    6   12
4   14  15  1

The above solution itself can be rearranged in eight different ways. I dont think there is any other solution.

in a magic square,there are 16  small squares

1   2     3     4
5    6     7    8
9   10    11  12
13  14   15   16


each square can be filled in 16 ways  and there are 16 squares. therefore the total no: of ways in which it can be filled is 16*16=256 ways
