Two Gamblers A and B play the following game :- A fair coin is tossed. If head appears A gives B Re.1 , otherwise B gives A Re.1. The starting capitals of A and B are Rs.50 and Rs.20, respectively. Prove that the probability of B going bankrupt is 5/7.

this is simple
the max number of tosses required for any of them to become bankrupt is 70
and it will take a minimum of 50 tosses for B to be bankrupt
so the probability is 5/7

hey the game could go on and on without any winner....therefore i don't think the max number of tosses reqd is fixed ...(though it does seem so fron the answer 5/7). thanks for trying !!

yeah the game could go on forever as the prob of a head or tail is 50/50, so the min tosses in which Bcan go bankurupt is 20, i.e., if hes really unlucky.

Everything that's happening as it should be happening, because of the simple fact that it's supposed to be happening just as it is happening.

The min no of tosses required for B to go bankrupt is 21.
There is no max no of tosses, as the game can go for ever.
The next min no of tosses is 23. Then 25, 27, 29... so on.....
Find probability for the occurence of each of these cases. and also find probability for B to loose in each of theses cases. Multiply these two probabilities in each case....
Now u will get an infinite series (coresponding to 21,23,25,27,29,......)
Add this series to get answer.

The min no of tosses required for B's cash to go to zero is 20.
So, he will go bankrupt on 21st toss (if he looses on 21st toss)
