Hmm.........i am not sure.but here;s my solution....... The given condition should be satisfied to all values of x and y. As a short cut method, put x=y or put x=y=1 The determinant value will become "0" as all the 3 rows are identical. hence,the answer is "0" I am NOT sure of the answer,plz correct me if I am wrong.

your answer is correct karthik but here is the solution: given DET=product of 2 dets which are a1 b1 0 x y 0 a2 b2 0 and y x 0 a3 b3 0 1 x 0 hence the answer is 0.

hey karthik,wen u subst. x=y and the rows or colums of a determinant becum proportional(in dis case dey becum equal n so u get 0)den it means dat (x-y) is a root of the determinant... hey plzz if i'm rong ,corect me...coz dis is wat i red.. n if i'm ryt,plzz rate me...
