If y=x+tan x =0 the the soln can be found by drawing the graphs of tanx and -x.

If y is not equal to 0 then we can draw the graph by shifting the graph of tanx x distance in +ve or _ve dir. depending on value of x. but it is a lenthy task as we have to plot many points to take the graph as x is a variable if x would have been constant then it would have been much easy.

if y=x+tanx =0 the get the exp tanx=-x and we seperately draw the graphs of -x and tanx and find the pts of intersection which gives us the no. of sol.
