THE Q, HAS ALREADY BEEN SOLVED.........20 DAYS BACK let m and n be positive integers such that: m/n = 1 - 1/2 + 1/3 - 1/4 + ... - 1/1318 + 1/1319. Prove that m is divisible by 1979.. AWARD ............ FOR ABS. CORRECT ANS. .............. 20 RATING POINTS ANSWER WOULD B REVEALED AT 10 AM TOMMOROW. AND BELIEVE ME , IT WOULD TAKE A MATHEMATICAL GENIUS TO SOLVE THIS...........

C, THE PROBLEM LOOKS LIKE ANY OTHER ALZEBRA PROBLEM
BUT IT REQUIRES A TRICK WHICH IS VERY DIFFICULT TO VISUALISE TO UNLOCK THIS PROBLEM.......

do you want to say that m is completely divisible by 1979 i..e it will yield a whole no. on dividing m by 1979???????

m/n=1-1/2+1/3.........-1/1318+1/1319
=>1+1/2+1/3........+1/1318 +1/1319 -2(1/2+1/4......1/1318)
=>1/660 +1/661........+1/1318+/1319
=>(1/660+1/1319) +(1/661+1/1318).......combine other terms like this...
=>(1979/660x1319)+(1979/661x1318)..................
as number of terms are even all will combine.....like above in pairs...
and and and 1979 is prime.......
so proved .........

i didnt copy that but had done that before...
used to browse through IMO problems......was preparing for maths olympiad
well thats 1979 IMO problem.....n thats why they chose the number 1979 in this general problem....
u seem to be too much shocked to see someone answering that...
