Let f(x) be a function defined on the positive integers such that:
f(x) = x/2 if x is even
f(x) = (3x+1)/2 if x is odd
Then the conjecture is: iterates of f(x) will eventually reach 1 for any
initial value of x.
Prove or disprove this conjecture!

yeah whatever. Thought no one would recognise it eh? :D :D Neway the original one states that f(x) = 3x+1 x = odd though it would make no difference to divide by 2 bcos of parity change :)

Hey thats not possible, dont have toooo much high hopes :D :D If this is not possible by many great mathematicians all over the world, then hw can kids solve it? (unless in an exceptional case)

I'm in the search of that exceptional case!!
A lot of students from CalTech's Mathematics department are working hard to solve it.They are missing a lot of gr8 parties bcoz of this,so i wanna help them by providing them solution!
