how to find rank of a matrix?

how to find rank in a shrtcut way see by an example................. 1.....2.....3.....0 2.....4.....3.....2 3.....2.....1.....3 6.....8.....7.....5 now see the digits wich are repeating here 2(4 times) and 3(4 times) so rank is no. of repetitions of larges digit (here three) so rank is four if no repetition then rank = (sum of elements of primary diagonals) - (sum of elements of secendary diagonals)

The rank of a matrix is the maximum number of independent rows (or, the maximum number of independent columns) If one row/column is a multiple of another, then they are not independent, and the determinant is zero.

rank in echelon form is the no. of non zero rows in a matrix in echelon form.... and also the det whose value is not zero eg for a 3X3 matrix is det is ) then try any 2X2 matrix from it and then get the det+0 the value of tht matrix is the rank...
